Give it to me Raw

I wanted to write a small simple... well, nothing is simple anymore, paragraph on being new to the lifestyle (Raw, 8/11, etc.) I've received several emails from people that are downright scared to eat, or partake in this "lifestyle" due to the scrutiny in 99% of the threads here on GITMR (raw vs. 8/11 vs. fruitarian vs. vega vs. pesciterian, etc. etc. etc.)

These boards can get a little scary sometimes, no doubt, so If you are new to this lifestyle fear not.

Eating right is not as hard or complex as it's made out to be. If you stick to fruits, nuts, seeds and veggies, and balance them out in moderation you'll be just fine and well on your way to better health, I assure you. Weighing your portions, comparing carbs vs. fats, etc. is not necessary, unless you choose to do this on your own and it's a goal you've set for yourself for reasons unknown to me. Eating does not need to be this complicated, nor is it by any means. If you’ve weaned yourself of the S.A.D diet the award is already in your hand and my hat goes off to you.

I’ve been eating RAW for over 7+ years now, in the beginning I was clueless. I stuck to fruits, nuts, seeds and veggies and did my best to properly food combine when eating.. that was it. After roughly 7 months I began to experience a whole new relationship with my body. I no longer “planned” eating. My body knew what it wanted, what it needed and when it needed it, I just followed along and gave it what it asked for. To this day I eat this way, it works for me. Eating to me is nothing more than a fuel to sustain life while I do my best to enjoy it. The byproduct of better health, for me, is living a life disease free which in turn allows me to see and experience much more than I would lugging around a walker and a catheter.

So before you get scared away and run for the closest Burger King, know that eating right is not complex. You don’t need to read a book, or follow some minute by minute technique to achieve positive results. With proper health you will have the energy, stamina and drive to live life to its fullest.

Good luck.

I see so many people get so sidetracked with how they eat that life just passes them by. That seems a little backwards to me. I chose the raw diet because of its simplicty and positive results with almost no effort which allows me to enjoy life that much more. :)

Excellent job on this one, Burke.

The beauty of this movement is its simplicity. I believe all of us could a little more of that in our daily routines, if nothing else. As such, this "whole new relationship with your body" aspect is the most amazing transformation one could ever go through. Even those who go raw for 6 months to a year, and then move on to other forms of sustenance, experience the same thing. I encourage anyone to set goals to achieve this level of clarity, even if only for a brief moment in time. Your body will thank you.

I am saddened to hear that people who are new are scared to do this because of childish arguments on this board over which "path" of raw is the proper way to go. To those people who do this, my suggestion is to please grow up, and make sure you do this quickly. Your infantile wailing will soon fall on deaf ears around some of the more mature folks on this board, if it hasn't happened already (and by looking at some of the posts, I believe it has)

A very timely post, Mr. Bryant.

Nailed it Burke......I couldn't have said it better.

The more we stress about the nuances and subtleties of what the perfect, correct, original diet is, the more chance we'll be diverted from the main thrust of the issue which really can be summed up as >>>

Eat as much raw food from as broad a spectrum of varieties as you can ....as often as you can. If the food is local and organic, well so much the better! Make the best choice possible with everything you ingest. Forgive yourself for inconsistencies, but try to remain consistent for the best results. Don't become obsessed with food....let it be your fuel not your religion. Listen to advice from others, but be suspicious of those who insist you must do what they do or believe what they believe. Anyone who insists they have the only true answer, to raw food or anything else, is probably unbalanced or ill-informed.

I appreciate you bringing up body wisdom - the idea that our bodies know much better what we should eat than David Wolfe, Doug Graham, our friends, family, and even our minds. As long as we select from foods in nature, our bodies know what they need. Lately I've been increasing my compatibility with my diet by making all my food decisions based on my internal drive, not what I read in a book. It feels great!

Josh, yes! Our bodies are perhaps the greatest miracle in existence, for those to think that something so miraculous, perfect and ever evolving does not know how to fuel itself properly is absolutely insane. People need to give themselves and their bodies more credit. If people just began to listen more on an internal level everything will fall into place perfectly as it was intended to be. ;)
