Give it to me Raw

The craziest things have been happening to me. Two nights ago i watched The Amazing Race, they were in Prague and I kept saying over and over, "I want to live in Prague!" Lo and Behold, yesterday I get a message from my aunt who has well-off friends in Prague who are looking for an au pair. I would have the entire top floor of their house to myself plus room and board and apparently they are in a very good situation. My aunt kept saying, "it's such a good opportunity, they live in such a beautiful place!" Of course, with Prague, it seems like that would be true nearly everywhere. SO I may be moving to Prague next year, crazy as it is (because I had been planning to move back to LA) but this is something that feels like a once in a lifetime situation. SO after all that,

anyone there who's raw? Anyone know if there is much of a raw scene there? OK thanks xoxoxo

I've heard good things about Prague over the years cuz I thought I was really interested in teaching English abroad.

If there's no raw scene, you get to organize one, with our help. Can't lose.

Well if you don't do it, I'll have to.

(Don't make me come over there!! Ha! Ha!)

My understanding is that there is not very much of a raw scene, but there is an amazing raw foods company, LifeFood who are getting their products into shops all over the Czech Republic and Slovakia. We found raw chocolate bars and other bits and pieces in a random health food shop we found.
They also have a stall in a shopping centre selling nori rolls, dips and pates, raw chocolate and more. They might be able to tell you more if you contact them: http://www.lifefood.cz/en.html
Apart from that, I don't think we found much organic fruit and veg.

Congrats! Sounds like an amazing opportunity, kind of jealous :)

I've had the hardest time since coming to France. It's totally doable but challenging nonetheless. Everything here revolves around bread and cheese (and that's kind of an understatement). Raw friends would have made it so much easier! Hang around the food markets, I say. Do you speak Czech?

No I don't. They are looking for someone to speak English with their children but I am a little nervous about the language thing even though Ive heard that a lot of czechs know some english. Im thinking about seeing if the rosetta stone language program has it for czech. How long have you been in france?

Hey CallieBallie,

If you feel the need for extra bread, I've been strongly ("strongly") told that ESL teachers do not need to know the native language, since they teach the class in English. My friend Gina Henry at Facebook can help, she taught me (in a 3-hr class, taken three times, but never used, ha-ha).

I'm sure yer not interested......but any way

oh, i was just thinking in terms of meeting other raw fooders :) my friend is an au pair in paris and came here not knowing a word of french and did fine with the children in her family. it's much easier with kids, anyway. maybe look into a language school? i know with france if you're enrolled in a language school you can get a student visa...i don't know if you need one or not. that way you can also take a few hours of class a week and learn some intro czech.

i got here in late august. i'm on an exchange for my undergrad. when i came here i only had a years worth of french but the immersion has been amazing. you'll pick it up in no time, for sure.

It might be useful to track your food intake with a program like Cron-O-Meter for a few months. If you choose to do so, you will have plenty of objective info about your intake of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and lipids, and you will be able to…
