What do you guys think of this article, and the fact that they've basically lumped raw food as just another "fad diet" that's preposterous and dangerous as the other 5?
I think this is a ridiculous, opinionated article in concern with raw food. It sounds like the author didn't personally enjoy raw food but that is no reason to slam it for everyone else.
Also, while dietitians claim that raw food has small amounts of toxins in them, that's basically nature's way of saying that you must rotate your food supply so that you don't destroy an entire plant species. Am I not right on this one?
What do you guys think? I haven't personally talked to the author of this article or the other dietitians yet, but maybe we can round up some experienced raw fooders who can set things straight. There can't possibly be anything wrong with a diet that people can follow their entire lives, 10, 20, 30+ years...
This article dosen't sound like journalism, it sounds like a con. Where's the research put in, for that would of shown that raw foodism should not be on that list. Also it annoys me she calls herself a 'part time vegan', sorry but as a vegan for nearly 4 years your talking rubbish- you are either a vegan or not. Also its laughable that living in a town where someone created some raw food makes you some sort of expert on it, then again I suppose that makes me an expert on the workings of Nestle because I live in the same town as their headquarters?

some people just have one bad experience with ear-stapling and throw the baby out with the bathwater.
hehe
I think the only worthwhile information here is that no 'diet' is really effective or workable long term without a proper sustainable lifestyle change. Like what she is observing of the MC I totally agree with..the science - that people need specific nutrients every 2 days. or that there are no toxins to begin with...is simply absurd. If someone is coming from that place..I won't even read what they have to say about raw foods, because for them at best its all about "eat this and be healthy" and never " take responsibility for yourself". Remember for most people, just the idea of (truly) eating healthy, and completely removing the WORST habits is just ONE BIG STRUGGLE with no shortage of excuses and arguments supported by the dietetic and medical establishments. No Conspiracy Necessary.
what's that saying? "What's a moderate amount of cocaine? What's a moderate amount of a bullet in the brain?"
There are many reasons why I avoid mainstream media. One, you have sponsors who want mainstream viewpoints. Mainstream viewpoints that do not cause any friction with the majority of readers. And then you have the writer, who gets paid to bring in customers (revenue), so he or she will write what people want to hear.
The author realizes that most Americans want to hear that raw food is a fad and not good for you. Because the majority of americans are addicted to the SAD diet. That's the diet that is promoted right now in this country. Sure the writers and nutritionists try to make the SAD diet healthy...but raw does not fit in. Cut off its head.
If raw food had a big powerful corporation backing it (Atkins Diet), then maybe you would get more respect (monney=power=respect), but that would make it a fad diet...no?
I agree with how stupid it is to consider raw food a fad diet. It's the most natural way to eat. Been done for thousands of years.
I don't think it is possible and i wouldn't want it to. All I am saying it corporate power gets respect from other forms of corporate power. like Atkins or South Beach getting respect from mainstream media-- until those diets starts killing people and it take a shit load of money from non-profits like Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) to bring done the fad that was Atkins diet.
So raw food will "whittle" your wallet according to her because of some prepared raw food dishes she bought at Whole Foods? WTF? Majority of prepared foods at Whole Food is shite and expensive. How does this mean raw food is expensive you lazy asshole. Obviously she's lazy if pine nut cheese is too complicated and time consuming to make. seriously.
SO buying one brand of prepared raw food dishes (I have no idea of the quality of Roxanne's brand) gives her "plenty of experience with raw foods."
She is now officially on my list of people to spit on if i ever see them face to face. Right there with Fred Phelps, and Dane Cook.
Geez, what was I thinking? Thanks, Ms. Upton, for showing me the way. Now, if you'll all excuse me, a bag of peanut butter-filled pretzels and a bottle of Mountain Dew await me.
