Well, in Ayurveda, nose piercings are supposed to help with all female bodily concerns...periods, childbirth, hormonal balance, etc. I didn't have my nose piercing when I gave birth to my girls, but I always wonder if it would've helped!! But I also have never had any problems with my periods, like cramps, since I have had my piercing. Funny, since every woman in my family has horrendous period problems. Interesting question!

Interesting Alicia! Did you have bad periods before getting the nose ring, and then it improved? Also, I wonder, how does the nose influence female things? My naturopath is also an Ayurvedic practitioner, maybe I should see what she has to say!

I had horrible periods before my piercing, so I always wonder! Now, I may have a couple of cramps the first day, then none at all the rest of my period. There is a marma point (like an acupuncture point in Traditional Chinese Medicine), on the point of the nose that corresponds to female reproductive organs. Your naturopath may be able to point out the marma point for you. I've always been fascinated by how these points correspond to the systems of the body...I bug the crap out of my acupuncturist when he chooses a new point...I just have to know why! :)

Does it matter which nostril you get pierced? Which one do you have done Alicia?

I have my left side pierced. In India, it is done on both the right and left, and sometimes both. If I remember correctly, the marma point is the same on both sides...if I would've known this before I gave birth to my girls, you better believe I would've had it done *much* sooner! :) Natural childbirth gets a little painful after a couple of hours! :) ;) My youngest daughter can't wait to get her nose pierced, but here in NC, you have to be at least 14. She's got 3 more years to go! I hope maybe this might make her periods a lot better.

Hey Girls! I'm about to get my left nostril pierced - that is the one in Hindu teachings and Ayurveda that relates to the divine feminine. It's supposed to activate your goddess essence because the left side is the feminine side of the body. I am a chakra healer, but I've never heard any reference to piercings being either harmful or beneficial to the flow of chakras. Perhaps the quality of the metal is the most important thing to consider. I would only consider having gold or silver.

As women, we have enough maintenance down there. Why add?

Also, don't get tongue piercings. It will chip your teeth. My ex had his two front teeth broken that way. Most dentists are too lazy to tell you because they're just waiting for the clock to strike five.

yup, I had tongue piercing and chipped my teeth with it all the time. It hurt, but it wasn't until a Chinese Doctor told me I was leaking energy out of my piercings that I took them all out!!

Not all piercings run through the major acupuncture meridians. The one running down the center of the body and down the center of the back are major channels, the conception and governing vessels respectively. This is why the center of the navel affects digestion and reproduction functions. The next channel laterally (to the sides) is the Kidney channel. But, its about 1/2 to 1inch to the side of center of the navel, (depending on a persons anatomy). I recommend side of the navel piercings for this reason. Side of the nose piercing do not run through a major channel, but through the center of the septum may affect the governing vessel as it end directly under the nose at the top of the lip.
In acupuncture school we used to discuss ear-lobe piercings as its at the micro-point of the eye. But, its affect is up for debate. The idea is that a piece of steel may short circuit or cause an impediment to the flow of chi or energy through a given channel. There are however many micro-currents throughout the body that have little to do with the acu-channels, namely the ones that electrify the Hologram.
Ceasarean sections are the most affected by stagnation as these cause a direct blackage which is not as easy to correct. Special acupuncture techniques are used to soften keloid scars and promote the releasing of blockages.
So its actually the scarring of a piercing that may cause more damage than the actual metal as you could take the metal out on ocassion.

Meridians run thro our body and are like energy channels in Chinese medicine...just Nadis are energy channels in Indian Yoga...and coz these have energy travelling thro them...altho sometimes they can become blocked due to physical or emotional toxins....they need to be freeto do so. If you pierce a meridian its ok for a short time but if you you overstimulate this meridian or point it can coz imbalances in the functioning of that organ /system..thats why acupuncture is such a precise form of treatment....the person doing it knows how long to leave the needles in....i ve heard quite a few stories of of folks having emotional & physical reactions

I have piercings in my left and right nostrils, but couldn't say if they help down south. I almost never get cramps anymore, but thought it was more related to aging lol. I have been getting more painful cramps on occasion since going raw though~
