I have been in the market for spiral slicer and a mandoline. I believe I will get the World Cuisine Tri-Blade Plastic Spiral Vegetable Slicer over the Saladacco but choosing a mandoline is a little overwhelming. I would like to keep it under $75 and I would like something that cuts really thin. Does anyone have any thoughts?
Thanks!
Melissa
Hi Melissa,
The best choice for me, having tried a very inexpensive mandolin and a spiralizer (which I gave away) is the Benriner.
Here's a link. http://www.quickspice.com/cgi-bin/SoftCart.exe/scstore/cookware-sli...
I think of this one as the middle path. Not too cheap but not too spendy either.
Tell me how it works out.
Peace,
Jimmy
Thanks so much for the recommendations Suvine and Jimmy. I did just get the World Cuisine Tri-Blade Plastic Spiral Vegetable Slicer but I haven't had a chance to test it out yet, will update on this when I get a chance. I am still struggling over a mandolin. I am debating between the Swissamar Vblade Plus and the one you recommended. How many different settings does the Benriner have? I am most interested in superthin slices for slicing thin cucumbers/zucchini to use as a spring roll wrappers. I see the Benriner has a nice price, that's a plus, especially if it is a fairly sturdy slicer.
thank you again!
Melissa
Hi again Melissa,
The Benriner is a fairly versatile tool. I make parogies with Jicama and so i need to make potato chip thin pieces so they don't break when rolled. It also comes with three blades for making varying sized noodles. I liked them so much I bought a case so I could get them to people who could benefit from them.
I'm curious to see how the story ends so keep us posted,
Jimmy
I got 2 nice mandolines, but since slicing my hand open and needing stiches, I haven;t used it since. I'm too afraid to clean it. As far as a spiral slicer, I use it all the time now to make zuchinni "pasta". MMMM. I honestly don't know what brand they were, but just throwing that out there. ;)
Panda,
Ouch! Sorry to hear about your hand. You can never be too careful. Amazon is full of mandolin horror stories in the reviews. I promise I will be careful. I used my spiral slicer today on a sweet potato. That was fun and fun to eat! So far so good, can't wait to spiral a zucchini!
Oh I have one of those too, I love it! Great for carrots since they won't go through the spiral slicer. Still debating mandolines. I think I am just looking for reasons to buy new kitchen toys! :)
