I recently have noticed my hair is coming out, quite allot!
Its worrying me slightly. I had blood tests at the doctor and my iron is low (though not anaemic)
I eat quite allot of greens and iron rich food, however, my cacao consumption is very high...Does cacao inhibit iron absorption?
Im taking a b complex supplement and an iron supplement...any advice??
cacao is really high in iron. 300% dv in about 8 nuts. You could eat an orange with it to increase absorption. Cucumbers have silica which is good for hair and nails- and b6 is necessary for hair to grow. B- complex and horsetail would be good to take..
I have this problem..... if your iron stores (ferritin) are below 40, then you lose hair. It needs to be 70 to regrow new hair also. There are a lot of things that can cause you to not absorb the iron... cacao is high in tannins, and tannins flush out iron.. big time. excess fiber, and high levels of oxalic acid flush it out as well....spinach, buckwheat, chard. etc. WHen eating iron rich foods, or taking iron supplement take it with lemon juice or vitamin c fruits, that helps you absorb :). Also, although I wouldn't eat molasses, I mix unsulphured organic balckstrap with some apple cider vinegar and massage into my scalp a few times a week, leave it on 20 min and wash it out. It has a high iron content. Unfortunately your hair is the last place the iron goes to when you really need it... hopefully the molasses thing helps.. i've only been doing it for a couple of weeks now.

I also had (and probably still have) low ferritin. My hair used to really fall out. I learned that low ferritin is often a side effect of hypothyroidism, which is one of my issues.
wheatgrass juice is very high in iron and other essential nutrients..I dont know much about cacao,just that i avoid it generally cos it makes my heart race lol..
is your diet well balanced?raw fat,whole ripe raw and organic fruit,vegs greens nuts and seeds?are you stressed?sleeping enough?exercising enough?getting enough fresh air and sunshine?drink enough water/green juices?

I eat an occasional egg, keeps my hair in place. Just eating greens doesnt cut it for me, hair still falls out. Not cool.
This may not be an option for you though.
I think that if vegans are jumping through hoops just to get their balance of vitamins, it must be a sign.
If I find a simple vegan solution to this though Ill take it.
hmmmm. i have a friend who's totally bald and her ayurvedic doc and naturopathic doc told her she had leaky gut syndrome and should stay off of sprouts becuase they have mold in them.. i don't know about the cocao connection.. but i do hear there is a conneciton to your absorption.. sounds like you are not absorbing things, i recomend reading and researching under the guidence of gabrielle cousins...

im upping my greens intake...more kale, as opposed to spinach. I eat plenty of pumpkin seeds, stlll hooked on chocolate tho, my only vice!!! I have Seaweed a few times a week and am taking an iron supplement (guess it will take a month to kick in, will have another blood tests soon), trying to remember to have some camu camu or simillar at the same time. I also take kelp, b-complex and sillica.......
Putting rosemary oil i my conditioner too.......mainly im just worried that i have absorbtion issues, how to remedy this? I take enzymes occasionaly, my digestion can be bad, very 'gassy' (see previous post)!!!
