Give it to me Raw

I'm getting pretty bad dry skin on my hands. Lots of cracking around the knuckles. I've been raw for about a week now. Lots of green juices and fruit. Not many nuts and seeds.

Is this normal? Can I do something about this?

Would adding a little flax oil to my smoothies help?

Silica is really good for the skin. I would add a whole organic cucumber per day - skin and all to your diet- juiced, sliced, or blended...

its probably a detox sympton. instead of putting something in your mouth to fix it, try putting something on the skin like shea butter or coconut oil 2-3 times a day.

Hi Tony, you are probably experiencing a detox symptom. eczema is a nervous system reaction to toxins. The body has several organs for ridding itself of toxins - one of them is through the dermis - hence breakouts, eczema etc. A mixture of bees wax and olive oil should heal your skin quickly and you can use it almost anywhere that you experience dry skin. I use it on my face during winter! Ask your health food store if they carry beeswax w/ olive oil, if not just melt some high quality beeswax in a pot w/ some olive oil and place in a jar. Also adding a few oils into your diet is a good idea too. (as the others have suggested). Good luck!

I have been raw for a while and I experienced the same thing. It is a part of the detox, ive noticed and it does improve. When you are ready to incorporate some grains, millet and oats are very helpful for this too.

Put some raw virgin olive oil or grape seed oil in your smoothie and the vitamin E will feed your skin :) as will the omegas.

Are you drinking enough? Maybe it's detox because all the waste is going to be mobilized and your kidneys are trying to pull some water from all the cells so that your urine isn't so concentrated with all the stuff. I don't know, that's just my theory.

Aside from dietary connections, I'll just add that at this time of year moisture in the air is much lower. I'm not saying your diet isn't effecting your skin...just keep in mind that some of what you are experiencing could be more environmental than dietary.

You may want to increase the fats a bit to see if things improve.

I currently have some minor skin cracking around a few fingernails.

I have also been dealing with dry scaly skin on my face~mostly right above my eyebrows and across my bridge of my nose going out toward cheeks.
My feet have started to get dry & itchy.

Another conventional wisdom: Lots of protein will only make you pee proteins ;) Expensive for you and puts a strain on your kidneys.
