Give it to me Raw

I get Jinjee's (www.thegardendiet.com) daily little email, and I really like reading it, it's like a little raw of sunshine everyday.
This one talks about the difference between raw people and SAD people getting mainstream blood tests, I found it quite interesting and thought other people might too...(She got it off her friend's website, as she states at the end )

"My raw vegan friends just had their blood-work done and the naturopath was alarmed at the results - yet my friends feel great and look amazing! They did some research and found some information that may be helpful to others in this situation....

- It should be remembered among raw fooders that deficiencies are always gauged against standards that are established as "normal". This is done by examining the blood of apparently "healthy" individuals, and arriving at averages. Since 98% of our populace dies prematurely of degenerative disease, however, this data cannot be regarded as reliable. We cannot know what optimal nutrient levels are by assaying the blood of individuals who are slowly dying of degenerative disease! Even if we examine the blood of people who are living very healthfully and enjoying an exceedingly high level of health, we are faced with the other obstacle I mentioned: among the millions of different chemicals present in our blood at any given time, how can we tell the difference between what is vital to the functioning of our bodies and what is waste that is being eliminated? We can't possibly know what optimal nutrient levels are. We haven't even identified all of the nutrients i n foods. It is estimated, in fact, that we only know about 10% of them!

Here's another point to consider. If you put all the various diets that everyone in our culture eats on a scale from 0-100, with "0" being the worst junk imaginable and "100" being optimal, you'd find that even the most health-conscious naturopaths, herbalists and nutritionists might come in somewhere around 35, at best. These are typically the people who warn us about nutrient deficiencies. Now we raw fooders aren't anywhere near optimal on that 0-100 scale because of the sub-standard food we're forced to eat, but at least we're eating according to our biological design. Why on earth are we allowing 35's to tell US that WE need to worry about nutrient deficiency?

What can we do to assure ourselves that we won't become nutrient deficient? Well, we raw fooders are already doing the #1 thing -- eating biologically appropriate, raw food. In addition, we can strive to eat fresh, ripe, tasty food because these are indicators that the nutrients are there.

Raw fooders have much more pressing issues to concern themselves with than nutrient deficiency, like learning about the real causes of disease. Disease is a result of excess, and this fact is ignored by doctors, naturopaths and nutritionists. If in every case where deficiency was blamed for disease, the excesses that are being indulged by the patient were stopped, the disease would stop as well. The most important thing to remember is that if we follow health-building habits (which raw fooders do, more than anybody else), our bodies will become very efficient at extracting and using the nutrients that we consume in food.

PS: This was copied and pasted from

Note: we don't fully endorse everything they say on their site. They lean towards fruitarianism, and we believe that a large variety of raw foods should be consumed, including greens, vegetables, sprouts, seeds, nuts, and nut-milks.

Beautiful Niki

I just saw this story about a baby who was left for dead by the doctors but turned it around as soon as they left her alone, wise babay ;0

BREAKING NEWS
Miracle recovery of 'amazing Grace'

A baby suffering from "incurable" meningitis made a miraculous recovery after her life-support machine was switched off, her mother has revealed.
'Amazing' Grace Vincent recovered after her life-support machine was turned off
Grace Vincent was just six weeks old when she was struck down with a rare form of the brain disease and rushed to hospital, where she spent four days in intensive care before her family, from Newcastle, took the agonising decision to switch off the equipment sustaining her tiny heart.
But her parents were stunned when, freed from the tubes, the tiny girl - now nicknamed "Amazing Grace" - began to breathe tentatively on her own.
She is now on her way to recovery and her senses of smell and and touch and her vocal ability are all returning.
On May 16 she was rushed to hospital after Ms Ashurst, a hospital worker at Newcastle General, found her distressed, with the tell-tale purple patches on her skin. Doctors knew immediately her condition was serious and she was diagnosed with an infection of late-onset Strep B (or CBS).
Four days later scans showed Grace had suffered "catastrophic brain damage". Ms Ashurst said. "It was a bleak picture. The doctors said they'd never seen a girl as poorly as Grace. We came to the decision to switch off the machine on Wednesday. She was baptised on the Tuesday and all the family came to say goodbye.
But that moment never came. By 4am she was still breathing and giving her mother feeding signals. She willingly took her bottle and fed, confounding medical staff.
Two weeks ago she was transferred to North Tyneside hospital where doctors still expected her to die, as her heart rate was fluctuating wildly, but she was finally discharged on Friday.

All those nutrients are in the SAD blood work because the body hasn't taken them on. It doesn't recognize them.

How do you know, and what did you do to get your body to recognize them again ? Does the diet change do all that?

Thanks for the post Zoe, I love Storm and Jinjee, they are the family that really got me intrigued with actually living a raw lifestyle (as opposed to eating raw food).

I do get a little concerned about Jinjee's dismissal of the naturopath's alarm. I'd like to know just what the naturopath was alarmed about. I don't go to naturopaths, they seem to mostly despise raw and if they are at all veg friendly the urge me to eat lentils and cooked grains....

But I understand what she's trying to convey, we can sometimes get to stuck in the bloodwork results and not look at the big picture and think we aren't on the right path. I feel the same way about the Body Mass Index calculations and what is 'normal', along with other traditional health indicators. We just need to keep an open mind.

It's nostalgia and a bit of idolatry, I spent a lot of time in that general area of the world and most of the family I'm in contact with are from that general area so if there is any disconnect with humour and culture I feel it in media :) But he...

Ya I see what you're saying. I think spirituality and raw food, in my opinion have different levels. I think some people put too much emphasis on it being itself a spiritual practice, so I'm arguing the point that down plays it, not to obsess abou...

That sounds like a good topic to discuss! Thanks Lee. I thought it would be great if raw was the final destination before ascension because I don't see people who are really into it going back to eating meat or junk food.. but maybe you meant that...
