Give it to me Raw

So, recently found (well. dont know how recently) that the Japanese live the longest out of all of us. And they are the healthiest. Especially the women. This is due to their diet, activity level and friendships. They eat alot of veggies and grains.. but it is cooked. I had been thinking of adopting the diet as much as possible into my life before I started the transition to raw. I am curious though, if there are elderly raw people. ( i know. it sounds weird. lol) Has there been any research into the raw diet and old age? Do you think the Japanese diet is 'bad'.. if so why?

I think one of the main differences is that they eat lots of seaweed, rather small portions and no dairy.
I wouldn't recommand changing your diet radically if afterwards you want to change again. A change in diet is always stressful for the body. So if you grew up on a western diet keep the stuff that works for you and include more veggies, more seaweed, superfoods and leave out everything that you know your body can't handle that well. And after a while you'll probably notice how your body is asking for healthy stuff more and more and maybe you've transitioned to raw without even noticing ;)
I don't think any diet is bad, it just depends on what kind of life you wanna lead...

Some folks had comments about this earlier: http://www.giveittomeraw.com/forum/topics/those-healthy-okinawans

When I read about it, I asked my mom if we could move to Okinawa. She said she thought the main reason Okinawans live longer is that they're Okinawan -- just genetically healthy and long lived! But I still believe that there's much to be learned from their lifestyle. Lots of local produce, lots of exercise, and low stress = happy life!

I like to do fasts as well and I think the power in fasting is that its a remedial action, one part of the process of purifiying. For instance if you feel you have a lot of non-virtuous residue or spiritual obstacles to remove, you generate regret...

don't agree with the whole raw food creating a damp environment thing because of the wildly different effects of different raw foods. i've found candida to respond to 100% raw, several different approaches.
