Is reading someones energy the same as making an assumption about that person?

I hear people say a lot these day that they are really good at reading peoples energy which I agree, we all have this ability. The thing that I've noticed is that when these people are "reading" people they become so confident in their energy reading abilities that it's almost more like a judgment. It's almost like saying "I'm making this judgment about this person before I really get to know them". I believe peoples energies fluctuate all the time. So when you hear someone say something like "shes an angry person, I can tell by her energy" or "I get a bad vibe from him" you may be reading his or her energy but your also making an assumption about that person. That person may just be having an off day. For example if someone is out of there element and they show up at a party and they kind of keep their head down and don't make too much eye contact or maybe their a little jittery when they talk. This person may have an uneasy energy about them at that time but that's not necessarily how that person is all the time.
Just something I was thinking about, what do you think?

Yeah, I definitely think there's more to it. I think that most people really aren't judgmental and they'll give others a chance even if at first there uncertain about someones energy. I think that getting to know someone without really being conscious of their energy is the best way understand someone. Except everyone as the same, because we are and then decide if this person is someone were compatible with(but then I guess this comes back to energy again). I think that some people don't know how to not be conscious of others energy when they first meet someone. I'm sure that when reading this discussion topic there may be people that are trying to get a sense of my energy through my words. But, I could be wrong. I don't know.

we can only read others' energy through our own, i think. the degree to which this is true is highly variable though it seems.

People are always making judgements, it doesn't matter how enlightened or unaware they are, they are making judgements. Animals make judgements, some say hello, some run, some bite - there is a process of assessing the situation and the elements and judging, for safety, breeding material, play, competition, etc, It's not human nature, it's survival instincts. Like Peggy said some people can see, feeling much love no matter what - that says more about the reader than the one being read.

If energy has a polarity assigned to it like magnets, if it is attractive or repelling depends on your own energy, not wether they are north or south, it's whether you are north or south and what your response to the other energy is. So everything is a judgement, but the judgement says more about you than what you are reading.

Feeling ones energy is like seeing every red blue and green pixel of a tv screen, judging one is like seeing the image it is supposed to project.

Judging someone is like seeing the sun go down, feeling ones energy is like feeling the world turn round :)

If you don't mind answering, do you get a conscious sense of someone's energy when you meet them or is it more of an unconscious feeling?

"Conscious sense" and "unconscious feeling", in my mind can not be differentiated. If one gets an unconscious feeling, how does one know they feel it... if it's unconscious. It is one who is conscious or not, not ones feelings. Feelings are the symptom of consciousness. Judgement is anything but conscious. Perception is where "it's" at.

You need not be pardoned. Thanks for the compliment. If indeed it's a good thing to be a philosopher. Sometimes I think it's a chore, thinking about existence enough makes you never want to think about it again, or think at all.

Haha, oh Goodfella.

Isnt a perception of ones energy sort of based on the energy of the person perceiving it?

RGG, the belly-centered symptoms that most people (mistakenly) call hunger usually pass within 2-3 days. Your body is not hungry while fasting because it gets all of its needs met from its own reserves.
