Is it safe to leave your dehydrator on when you leave the house?

Let’s look at this from the point of view of your house wiring as it relates to this particular appliance.

The 9-tray Excalibur 3926T is rated at 600 watts (as mentioned), which is 5 amps @ 120 volts, and the residential models of Excalibur (for the US market) are all 120V. At NEC code minimum, the wiring in your house or apartment is rated at 15 amps, except for kitchen circuits, bathrooms circuits, and other dedicated circuits for specific stationary equipment and /or appliances. All 120V kitchen appliance circuits feeding accessible receptacles are by code rated at 20 amps minimum and should be GFI protected.

To be safe, YOU SHOULD NOT use plug strips, surge protectors, and other intermediate adapters or devices and plug this appliance directly and securely into a grounded wall outlet! You should also use your kitchen’s appliance receptacles, which can easily handle continuous loads such as this dehydrator.

As mentioned, most fires are caused by faulty appliances, faulty wiring, or sometimes improper use of an appliance.

If you have any doubts concerning the integrity of your house wiring then please consult an qualified electrician.

BTW_surge protectors only safeguard sensitive electrical equipment and appliances from surges and spikes coming from the utility-side of your electrical service.

Well-made and functioning appliances, proper wiring, and commonsense use all go together...I don't think you have anything to worry about.

I have an Excalibur as well and I leave mine on unsupervised all the time.

Ha! If I DIDN'T leave the house I'd eat everything before it was finished dehydrating.
