Give it to me Raw

Hello all, I apologize if something I'm about to write is offensive to anyone.

I've been dealing with disordered body image and eating habits for my entire life. When I was 15 I developed anorexia, which turned into bulimia and binge eating when I was 17-18.
At that time I also started to smoke to deal with my anxiety around food. At first it was just experiemental, but you know how it goes.. I am 19 now and I smoke around 12 cigarettes daily.

About 4 months ago I stumbled into Raw Foods. It all made perfect sense to me and I started eating more and more raw foods. I've shaped my eating since then to fit the 80/10/10 principles, and I'm feeling happier than ever. It seems like all my desire to binge has vanished along with my depression and anxiety. I never dreamed that I could let go of those things so easily. I don't feel any cravings for my formerly worst enemies - bread and candies. I've even gotten around my controlling behaviour and counting calories since I've really started appreciating my bodys needs and thinking of food as fuel, not some kind of dark demon it was for me such a long time.

Now that I'm at this point I've realized how stupid and hazardous my smoking habit is. The only thing keeping me back is weight gain.
I know it is far better to gain those extra pounds than be slave for those cancer sticks for the rest of my life.
But I consider myself a lost case, I'm at a healthy weight at the moment, but I still feel ridiculously conscious about my body. Yes, I go to theraphy reguralry. It's just such a scary thing to think myself gaining any weight. It really get's me an anxiety attack to even think about it.

I am sorry if I sound superficial. I just need to know if I will be able to keep my weight stable by contiuning to eat low fat raw diet after I quit. Do you think I should count my calories? I was planning on adding some extra exercise as well.

I appreciate all comments and advise.

guess whats exciting??! (well for me anyway?) i am finally getting rid of my candida,on a low fruit loads of greens, chinese herbs and moderate fat way of eating...sooo happy..no more rashes nor itchies...

i wondered why 3 years ago(pre parasite) i would get so itchy down thar(eek!) and it hurt when i had you know,um sex!and this was when i was hard core 811 no juicing narda...perhaps my pancreas was out of whack then too,who knows,shrugs..anyhoo..theres always some of us who will float outside the guidelines and heal our bodies from nasties like candida on a low fruit diet....

love xx
RG Goddess,

I'm with you. Yes, I too am so happy to be rid of problems the high-fruit diet caused.

I am getting my body and mind back!

I don't even feel like I'm "floating outside the guidelines," because 80-10-10 is such a marginal diet to begin with. It's not like it's the diet of any long-established, old, healthy, thriving community on the planet anyway.

Rather, I feel like I have joined in the collective wisdom of ancestors after having lost my way for a bit.

Every day I wake into a stronger body, made stronger by honoring my food choices and trusting my body to let me know what I need.
Yes, RGG, that whole thing about not trying hard enough does not resonate with me. That and the laundry list of false assumptions about what my diet is like. That's when it feels like evangelism. ;)

There's obviously no way you and I could be thriving on some other diet! Just ask Freelee.
Hey Rawz, u seem to be taking this discussion rather personally, remember we are in the 811 forum so ofcourse I will be here talking about how to succeed on a LFRV lifestyle & question those who haven't!

When a person says that the lifestyle didn't work for them, then naturally the 'WHY NOT' question will surface...but I don't seem to be able to get past the 'How long did u do 100% LFRV for...' question with you? Im guessing its because u didn't do it to the letter. That's fine but knocking a diet before u do it leaves me baffled.

What was the conclusion of the China Study Rawz? Ahh yes that a low fat vegan diet is best for human health & that fruits & greens are the most nutritious foods on the planet...seems pretty clear to me.

I told you it was specifically high-fruit that was a problem for me.
I'm sorry but this isn't clear .... for all i know & other newbies reading this it could mean u were eating steak, chips & 3 pieces of fruit (this is high fruit for some peeps...)

It's important for peeps who are trying to succeed on a LFRV lifestyle to have ALL the facts on the table & when an individual makes a claim that 811 didn't work for them, then its very important to find out why? Saying 'Oh it didn't work for me 'without any further analysis isn't helpful to the individual or others...

I can answer your question when u answer mine, thanks :)

My goal is to assist people interested in succeeding on LFRV & that is why I'm keeping my posts mainly in the 811 section. When others come into the 811 section & say it didn't work, wouldn't it make perfect sense for me to question in detail why?

But please stop dropping your pamphlets on my door
.
haha tha'ts pretty funny! :)
If you continue to come to this section then I am just assuming you want to succeed on a LFRV lifestyle & that u have some important pamplets for me to read?

All in good spirit & health

Freelee, how about this?

I'm happy with my diet; you're happy with yours.

Best of luck to you!
Note for Freelee: As I said earlier, The China Study has come under fire for a number of reasons. First of all, he didn't study vegan populations. He bases his recommendations for a vegan diet on populations that eat animal protein.

Additionally he does not address the ecology of the colon; specifically, the role that sugars, yeasts, and fungi play in candidiasis, which, in turn, manifests as the many inflammatory diseases he studies.

So, no, The China Study is no longer a guide for me. My body is my guide though, and I feel good now.
el-bo,

I think it is fair that some of us will say it didn't work for us, without having to substantiate our claims in excessive detail, especially when everything is working out so nicely on another diet.

Let us simply state what is true for us.
Really, I seem bored? Okay, maybe a little ;)

i couldn´t agree more free. high fruit and ANY OTHER food stuff (salted, dried, cooked, too fatty) is an instant ticket to weight gain.
when i follow 811 to the letter and break a decent sweat everyday the weight literally drips off me. as soon as i as much taste something i know i shouldnt the weight piles right back on.
The thing is I didn't challenge Freelee's personal experience. I allow her her space to share her personal experience without a need to promote another diet at the level of constant questioning and false assumptions about her.

Let's just allow each other the space to share.
Rawzilla that is a tough comment to follow

good job!!
Sigh. I'm just in a let's-just-all-get-along kind of place right now. Feeling connected.

That sounds like fun.. There is a thing called double dutch where two girls hold two ropes and you have to jump them both at the same time.. maybe you could find a couple of girls to try this with you. It's pretty impressive when you see it..
