I dunno... I kinda get the willies about it. I've always looked and admired the incredible and beautiful selection of produce they have there (and laughed when I compared it price-wise to ANYWHERE else in the city) but something always stops me from buying it.
How many people on here have picked up from there? How'd that go?
I think I'm afraid that it's going to be bad or have chemicals on it or like how the water in Mexico is un-drinkable to us gringos and all. I don't have anything to be scared of ...right?
are you saying people don't want to know what happens to their food?
i haven't bought mangos in years since consistently getting hot-water dipped organic imports. 'cos boxes of gorgeous outside-spoiled inside mangos suck.
especially when your papa then laughs at you because his non-organic, un-dipped mangos are sweet and delicious.

I don't really get what you are saying. That you have locally grown mangos but they arn't organic so only your dad eats them? I do think he will have the last laugh then.
I think clearly people want to think way to much about their food.
I have my personal reasons for making food choices and other people have theirs..but at the end of the day for most people transitioning or moseying with their raw diet, lots of these types of fears don't matter much because foods essentially mix with all kinds of stuff internally and turn to crap anyway. avoiding overtly bad food and making conscious choices should be the focus, and there is no parameters or guidelines that are universal.
I thought we should be able to notice this type of thing happening. Aren't we (the raw vegan community) at the pinnacle of fresh fruit fanaticism? How could this happen and I didn't know about it? Isn't there a way to tell by looking at it, smelling it, or eating it that a Papaya from Hawai'i has been heat treated? The USDA just reconfirmed with me that the Papaya is a high-risk exportation fruit if coming from Hawaii and must be steamed, boiled, irradiated, or denatured in some way, if not pickled, dried completely, or frozen at one point. The Big Island has an irradiation facility to pass seemingly fresh fruit onto the continental US. They also perform fumigation on fruits using methylbromide there. Is that noticable to the naked eye or to someone that doesn't have a lab at home to test for toxins and GMOs that fruit has been treated?. I am glad that my island doesn't have a facility like that. How can it get any worse? I shouldn't even ask that. It IS likely to get worse.
Master or Super TONIC (usually made with garlic, ginger, horseradish, onion, hot peppers, acv etc) is right up there. This dude here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wQbGDmaKZcstart at 1:50) is making tonic. It doesn't have to get this complex to ...
