Give it to me Raw

Last week we talked about your money and how you spend is spent differently since embarking on your raw journey.

This week I want to talk about spending time (aka "clock time" for all your Eckhart Tolle fans).

One of the biggest concerns that people have when they "go raw" is that their social life will evaporate - especially since so much of what humans do involves food. Even on this website that concern seems to be a reoccurring theme in blog posts and discussions.

Some of that concern is preemptive worry, but a lot of it is very legitimate. Who will I hang out with? What will I do on Thanks Giving? How will I spend my weekends?

So let me ask you, How do you spend your time now? Specifically, how do you spend time in a way that you previously didn't? How are your weekends different?

Also, I'd love to hear a story or two about how you've adapted to certain social situations now that you eat the way you do.

Again, specificity is king! Let's hear some great stories.

I would give my two cents, but I can't leave myself broke. I spend my time, shutting up, uploading knowledge daily, working out, and drinking water. I can't wait until the day my house is finished, and the raw chef is making dishes in my kitchen daily.

I certainly spend more time here than I did before!
I've been making decisions to spend my time doing what I love, which is composing original music.
So, instead of cooking, I'm in my studio working. I'm also trying to find vegan dishes for my 3-year-old, so I do still spend time in the kitchen, but not as much.

I spend a lot more time outside now days. I LOVE autumn. I still spend far too much time online.

pretty much the same way I spent my time before, except everything is ordered in priority now.

instead of:
clubbing
drinking
smoking
work
school

it has become:
school
work
clubbing
drinking
smoking?

good stuff, I suppose.

Me too, except for the clubbing, school, work, drinking, or smoking part.

I like to read a lot. And I also love movies. So many movies are based off of novels. So my new thing is to read the book before I watch the movie. The books are usually so much better. Right now I'm reading Twilight. The face of the actors is already in my brain from the previews but it's a good book so far.

Okay, my first GI2MR post ever... I tried to post before, but I don't know if it went through? Sorry if I double-post...

My boyfriend and I have been about 40 - 50% raw for about 2 and a half weeks - I know that is a pretty paltry amount for some of you, but we talked it over and definitely decided we'd rather transition slowly and have it actually stick, rather than go 100% overnight and give up a week later. (And to be fair, the cooked we are eating is very healthy - mostly veggies, very few starchy foods and processed foods.)

The main thing I spend more time on is... raw websites like this!! Every time I have a question, I search WLIR, GI2MR, and Gone Raw and see what other people are saying and doing. It's been a pretty huge help. Although it's sort of a hindrance to my work productivity - oh well, LOL.

We have been kind of reclusive since going "raw-ish" (don't know what else to call it at this point!), I will admit that.

We DO spend a lot of time planning food, and I personally spend a LOT of time researching equipment, what's the best, what's the least expensive, what to buy when.

We spend a lot of time cleaning our juicer. But MAN do I love me some green juice.

We are also doing a lot of cleaning and organizing, but that has to do with just having really moved into our apartment as opposed to our eating choices.

I think when we are more used to being raw, we will emerge back into our social circles. The good news about that is that we are friends mostly with theatre people, and they are generally pretty open minded folks. (well, except about booze; they really love booze. WE kinda love booze, too, but we have cut way back.)

I DON'T spend as much time putting on makeup or going to the dermatologist... my problem skin (of the past 7 or so years) has totally cleared up and looks awesome!!!

Oh yeah, and while I'm leading the way on Raw Food, my BF has been leading the way on workouts - we are spending a LOT of time in the gym, mostly lifting weights. I love it!

Go Meagan! You guys are awesome, it's so nice to have support when you're first raw and the fact that your BF is down is great!

Way to go!

I have some recipes on my page that are quick and easy and also have uploaded a bunch of vids on YouTube - more to come! The first are sideways, as I hadn't watched any of them and didn't know my cam wouldn't correct it, but the new ones are on their way and are 'straight up'. Woot woot! Keep it rawkin girl!

Andrea

My time isn't circulated much different than previously. I am still the co-director of the For You Network in Pasadena which is a group for business women. I always request food for vegetarians/vegans/raw.. by having cheese on the side, a variety of fresh raw fruit. With pasta, cheese and meat on the side for those who want it.

For other events, my crowd for the last 23 years are mostly vegan.. I bring enough raw food to share.

At other networking events, I bring my own food, find out what IS being served, bring food to share. At restaurants, they'll almost always make something raw for you ~ Italian ~ salads; Asian ~ all the mixed veggies can be raw ~ bring your own dressing.

Life is to short to not enjoy functions because we tend to eat a bit differently than others. More often than not, people will look at my food and ask how I got it. (Asked) Many would love to eat better yet through fear, ignorance (ignoring information), etc., they don't.

Great topic! I've been on a life-simplification path even before I went basically raw last year, and I would have to say the social aspect really changes. I'm in the phase right now of being inbetween friends as some of my old friends I no longer have much in common with for a variety of reasons, and raw is one more thing, IMO. I'm spending more time reading raw blogs, sites, etc. and getting inspired to expand my raw food prep skills. I also spend more time on metaphysical sites as well. I'm an artist of a visionary stripe, and I find that raw is leading me to more creativity, and a greater appreciation of just doing simple things, like food prep, hand-crafts, painting, etc. I was painting previously, and doing my craft work(knitting, re-painting furniture, hand-dyeing/re-doing second hand clothes), but this resonates even stronger now. Time spent in nature is even better now, and it was always good! My life circumstances are such that I don't have to be in any big rush about anything either, for which I am hugely thankful as this leaves me with plenty of time for just tuning in...Fitness activity is really important to me too, and I have plenty of energy too which has helped. For the record, I am likely older than most on this forum - I'd be curious if there were any other 60+ people here!

lately most of my weekends involve going to the desert, where friends live and collective meditation and meals, working a little on the garden maybe and playing volleyball... we recently started building a small eco-house there, so much time will be dedicated to natural building in 09, building for ourselves and friends, it will be a nice eco-village when the year is up! :)

I don't think this exists for humans yet, unfortunately - but what I think would be the healthiest mattress (and virtually free of dust-mites, even bed-bugs which inflict some homes recently) for humans would be the same as the healthiest for pets...
