Give it to me Raw

I took my cat to the veterinarian and she told me I should not feed my cat raw fish because he'll have kidney problems. Instead they offered me dry food. I stopped feeding my cat dry food because he was always hungry and stinky.
I went online and read about cats. Yes it's not wise to feed them fish, but dry food is almost as bad. Almost all the food sold in animal shops contains no more than 4% of meat products, the rest is soy, wheat etc. Who would think that Cat Food labeled "chicken" contains almost no chicken. Can you imagine a wild animal eating processed soy?
Thankfully I raised my cat outside, where he had to catch mice to feed himself, and learned about dangers of the so called Cat food quick enough. I now buy chicken and just grind it. It's a bit nasty, I didn't touch meat for years, but I have to take care of my cat. If I eat raw, why shouldn't he? I wear thick gloves when I do it. The raw cat diet costs me less than the cheapest dry food. I'm so glad I found out.
Here's a good website about cat food http://www.catinfo.org/
And I gave him drugs for parasites, don't want to go into the details, but turned out he did have them, that's why he ate so much.

Give him some raw chicken liver - about 10% of his total meal for taurine which he needs, an some mashed up bone for other nutrients. I used to put chicken bones in a plastic bag and smash them with a hammer.
I know it is crazy that feeding a cat raw meat and bones is cheaper than pre prepared stuff which absolutely kills them. I detest the idea of feeding them dry food. It almost makes me cry to hear that guide dogs for the blind here in the uk are fed a 100% dry food diet. It is so wrong, after all they do for us.

Thanks, I will definitely add some liver. I grind the chicken with the bones in meat grinder.

So you think is a good idea to give raw chicken to Pets?! I am asking because my wife wants to feed my dog all the time raw chicken, I just dont think that is a good idea (I wouldnt eat it, because of sallmonela) Im just not sure what to do here. I want my dog to be healthy *which she is* but I dont know if it would be a good idea to give her raw stuff. Why not just cook it, just in case, I am really wondering this for a while....just a thought, any ideas welcome! :)

I honestly don't know about a dog. On the site about cats the author said that he boils chicken for 2 minutes to remove bacteria and stuff. Maybe same goes for dogs. I believe that raw is better than cooked, but still cooked is better then dry food.

cats and dogs have extremely strong stomach acids and they can cope with anything, so it is not necessary to cook their food. In the wild cats and dogs even bury their kill and leave it to rot for a whille before eating it. It is detrimental to their health to cook their meat. and perfectly safe for them to eat it all raw.

Thanks Zoe! So, how do you recommend to feed my dog? She is a Golden Retriever, at the moment I spend a lot of money in dried and cans (that are not sold en mass, meaning they are not manufactured crappily) however, I dont want to give my dog these types of food anymore. I just dont find the stomach to give her raw chicken. But if you think she is ok I trust you!

Go to the supermarket & get some fatty & boney cuts of meat (turkey legs, shanks, stew, ground) They are normally the cheapest & sometimes butchers will give you free fat(it normally gets thrown in the garbage).

Although they'll eat anything you hand them. Dogs are carnivores. Don't fall for the trap at the pet store. They have a "Raw Food" section. which is very low grade food that cost more than human grade stuff. Don't fall into the hype that they need all these vitamins/mineral, or variety of fruit/veggies(okay as a treat i guess). They need fat, protien & bones. Some say that they make thier own vitamins, through appendix & claims humans used to as well. Didn't read much on that so you might want to just do your own research. Also they need real raw whole bones w/marrow, not bone meal/powder (different for cats I think) So don't go to crazy with the BARF diet(it's a brand)

Good Luck

well, I know cooked vegetarian dogs who are very healthy and happy who basically eat what their owners eat! I also know raw vegan doggies who are extremely healthy and very, very happy, who eat everything from fruit to seaweed to superfoods! And I also know raw meat and bones doggies too. Dogs are scavengers and they will and can eat basically anything and everything, it is up to you. If I were you I'd get a good book on it, there are a few I have seen, often by dog breeders. Here in the UK working dogs, sheepdogs which are used to herd sheep have always been fed raw meat, so in the big pet supermarket they have a frozen raw minced meat package, which I used to give to my cat actually. They did a rabbit, chicken, beef and a fish one. It was very convenient coz it was the whole animal, bones and all just minced and frozen which was very cheap too, maybe they have that where you are. But from the naturally fed dogs I have met, the ones that seem healthiest are given everything from fruit to raw meat and bones, the difference is sensational, really. Well worth it for your Golden retriever, they are such beautiful dogs, they deserve the best.
Another thing is, if you think your pet is all right and healthy as it is, on cooked food, then just wait and see what the difference is when you feed them raw. I mean I used to think I was really healthy as a cooked vegan, then I went raw and became a different person, same with your animals, just try it and see, everything shifts gear, it is stunning!

Are these dogs fed only vegan/vegetarian or are they handed to them as treats? If they're fed as treats, then I can understand.

If they're on all vegan/vegetarian diet.I have to disagree with you. It'll keep them alive but I doubt they're healthy. There was a TV show on a while back some fat lady bragging how she feeds her dog what she eats (cakes & microwaveable foods) Yea the dog looked very happy wagging his tail, doubt it was healthy.

Dogs are carnivores. Simply look at the traits.Yes they'll scavenge, But they NEED fat, protein, bone w/marrow to live the life they were designed to live. Marrow provides enough vitamins/mineral for carnivores to thrive.

I don't mean to come off gloomy about the vegan diet. We(humans) can think. Unlike animals in which we domesticated. We took them out of their environment & put them into ours. I think people should keep veganism for themselves & not force it upon their dog.

I do agree that raw feeding pets is the best diet for them if you can afford it. It's also ideal for you to do your own research. So you can decide whats best for your dog

well that is what I thought until I met these dogs and I had to change my mind.
The mostly vegetarian dog is beautifully healthy, really gorgeous, she eats eggs, special cooked vegetarian food and loads of fruit and vegetables.
The raw vegan dog is in amazing health. He went to stay with the owners dad for a few months once and he fed him cooked meat and his health deteriorated rapidly, when she got back and got him back on raw vegan he was back to being like a bouncy puppy. When I met him he was about 11 yrs old and had the energy of a puppy. Dogs can live as vegan or vegetarian, I have met enough of them to be convinced, but before I had actually seen it with my own eyes and actually met these beautiful dogs I didn't believe it either.
There is quite a lot of research about it in various sources. I remember reading one story about a lion who point blank refused to eat any flesh. Her owners tried to hide flesh in vegetarian food which she refused to the point of nearly starving, in the end they just fed her vegetarian, she became quite a celebrity as a vegetarian lioness, and lived a very healthy life. There are quite a few stories like this. Nature is diverse and often beyond what the mind can understand...

So I took some time & read about vegan dogs. From my readings I found that there were no realistic reasons why dogs should be fed vegan diets. All the statements & claims were the normal vegetarian mentality & arguments.

Meat=Murder, less meat factory=more vegetable agriculture, cows eat to much corn & soy that we can be eating, they drink to much water, cow farts hurt the environment & meat lacks nutrients. These statements are argued by both side(pro meat & vegetarians) Neither side providing any real data. Just their own speculations.

From my readings for vegan dogs. I found there are to many suggestions to cook most foods because the fiber can be problematic to the dogs digestive track. List of foods to avoid are pretty high & are disputed among them (garlic, avocados). Pitches to supplement your dog with a variety of vitamins/minerals & a racist attitude of how meat will kill your dog because it lacks nutrients they need.

Personally, I think they choose weak & arrogant points. Give plenty of variety: deficiencies are unlikely if a wide variety of foods is eaten. Now I'll agree with that statement, because the same is said for carnivore diet & even conventional kibble diets.

Also it's very conceded IMO to have to provide vegan pets with cooked foods to soften up fibers as well as vitamin & mineral supplementation. Because they(dogs) are taken away from their instinctive diet to fit into their owners idealism.
