Give it to me Raw

I think I've finally gotten a hold on my acne. I'm not breaking out much any more. However, I have lots and lots of red and brown marks from 5 or so years of having acne, especially on my chin/cheeks/facial perimeter. In addition my face gets red super easy and just looks red and irritated all the time even though I only wash with water or exfoliate with ground flaxseed. Are there any super healing raw foods I should focus on to heal my skin? Any raw natural skin treatments I could apply externally? Supplements? I'm tired of feeling like I look unhealthy because of my facial skin. I feel really good. I want my face to look glowing and unblemished too!

I like Garden of Wisdom products. They are a clean line without toxic ingredients.

They have two formulas for red/flushed skin (it sounds like you have flushing rosacea):

I've heard that the Lite N' Brite serum helps to fade acne marks and pigmentation:

You might also check out their forum (go to the home page to find it) and the moderators will recommend products for you;)
I'd wash with ground oats instead of ground flax. Rosewater is a good toner for red skin and you can get it at a healthfood store or international grocery.
I would avoid any spicy foods (if you don't already) and vinegar. These are known to make rosacea worse.

In my experience honey directly applied on the skin aids the healing, kills germs and reduces swelling and inflammation that may be causing your rosy tone.

rubbing fresh cut onions?? wow i think i might try.

about oil. oil makes the skin worst. it didnt help me,but still worth a try for a noobie.

What kind of oil? My facial skin hates coconut oil but likes avocado. Some people with oily skin like grapeseed, kukui or camelia oil. Different oils work very differently and you have to use it sparingly (like 2 drops mixed with some water in the palm of your had BEFORE massaging into your face). It's less greasy that way.

raw onions are loaded with sulfur- which is what MSM provides to the body. you could always make an onion salad if cuddling up to one isn't your thing!

Drink wheatgrass juice daily and add fresh aloe vera to smoothies. Your skin will be clear and glowing in 4-6 months, as long as you eat right and live a healthy lifestyle.

I've been reading a lot about Burdock root, as sometimes skin problems originate in the liver. Here is an interesting article:

Lovebug knows it...green juice makes your skin GLOW! and if u have redness eating lots of green and less high sugar fruits will help. Nettle is great for the skin in powder or tea, as well as fresh aloe vera plant, rub it on and leave it a while before washing it off. U shouldn't need supplements with the raw food diet.
If you keep with it, your skin will get better and better, also there's a great book called beauty by nature by Brigette Mars that has all sorts of natural remedies, maybe get yourself a copy.

I love avocado oil- it hydrates better than a lot of the other oils and it's the only one that plums out my smile lines;) It also makes your lips pinker!

Hi Samantha,

Great news your skin is getting better. My skin is always better when I'm high fruit, but that doesn't work for other things all the time so I don't do it so much - maybe more in summer. And I think what works internally is really dependant on the individual person - if your skin has cleared up you are on the right tracks, you maybe just need that little bit of external help too. Externally I use a MSM and cacao butter moisturiser at night - I don't know what part of the world you live but I'm in the UK and can get Raw Gaia stuff which is completely raw and natural and works like a charm. I also use coconut butter/oil sometimes just for a wee change - and put that on my hands and feet too as they are very absorbent. More and more, my thinking is that, given that one of the main functions of your skin is absorbtion, I try to only put things on my skin that I would put in my mouth. Ingredient wise I mean, I don't chow down on the moisturiser, but just apply the principle! Honey is good too as a face mask, although a bit sticky - you can always amuse yourself licking off the bits you can reach with your tongue!

Good luck,

Lucy xx

since starting raw and thus detoxing, my skin has been breaking out like crazy and leaving lots of red marks and such. i am hoping that enemas/colonics will help clear out more of the toxins so they won't try erupting from my face! i am also saving up for Clarisonic, which has tremendous reviews. i also am getting my juicer this week (woohoo!) and i hope that Natalia Rose's green lemonade without the juice will infuse more enzymes. ( I have been doing green smoothies but apparently the juice itself without all the fiber is more beneficial.) Overall i really think it has a lot to do with the toxins wanting to escape, so as we rid ourselves of toxins and ingest fewer toxins then we should end up nice and clean and glowing and vibrant. :)

You're suppose to be able to pick the leaf out of the middle - and it comes out realllllllll easy - if it's ripe. It should smell ripe too.
