Give it to me Raw

I haven't been on this site for a while but I've been eating high raw since april, getting a lot more into 80/10/10 the past couple weeks and mono mealing or at least simplifying the past week or so.

Saturday I had a Crohn's attack and the CT scan showed a partial obstruction. They have been pushing me to do IV steroids (prednisone) which I have refused. Of course another team of doctors comes in every hour or two and continually tries to push it on me. They are doing antibiotics currently and talking about putting me back on entocort, another med I have taken in the past for Crohn's. They also have mentioned surgery multiple times, saying if this gets any worse they may have to do emergency surgery. I think this can be avoided.

Currently I am not eating or drinking. They have me on fluids. I would like to go home and rest and do a juice fast. I need suggestions. What main fruits/vegetables should I juice? I do not have a fancy juicer, just a $70 hamilton beach. I need to avoid surgery and medication. I need a quick way to heal this inflammation. Please, any ideas anyone??

you need a real juicer. At the very least, a Champion. Depending on what city you live in you may be able to find one for cheap on craigslist. Have you heard of Dr Berkson? I've read much about his success with auto immune diseases etc...

A juice fast immediately is a good idea. I was suggest getting in touch with Berkson right away as well. Prednisone temporarily might be a good idea until you get a solid alternative plan together, especially if it will prevent you from getting surgery.
best to you.

I am so sorry this has happened to you...i have had ulcerated colitis for years, and now again getting good relief with chinese herbs, and going off 80 10 10...and onto a raw diet that suits my body better :)

do you have the David Klein book self healing colitis and Crohns, its a great book?

I use a greenstar and have found wheatgrass juice really beneficial for my health...when my uc was bad,i strained my juice so none of the fibre would irritate my colon...

Wishing you the very best.xo

Do you know what kind of fluids they have you on? I hope that there isn't pure sugar in there. Find out if you can have a low glycemic one. Ginger juice or tea would be good for swelling reduction and immunity. Ginsing would be good too. Have you been on any herbs? Shitaki mushroom broth and other herbs like astragulus, pau d'arco, and agrimony.

You should be careful though because some herbs can interfere with what the hospital wants to do. Could you have a blender in your room and strain cucumber and celery juice? Or can't you keep anything down by mouth?

Steven- not much time to buy a real juicer though. Something I plan on purchasing when I have the money. I will check out Dr Berkson, thanks for the tips.

RGG- What kind of herbs are you taking? What type of diet did you switch to from 80/10/10. I would think that would be best for digestion, no? I have read the David Klein book, unfortunately I have found his plan doesn't work well for me. The steamed potato was a definite no- it just caused more symptoms. The steamed veggies often did the same thing so I really can only juice them.

AU- I think they just have me on the usual sodium chloride saline solution. I think it was 5% - Does that sound right? Ginger juice- not a big fan but I guess I don't have much of an option. Would tea be just as beneficial? No blender in the room, no juicer.

My parents have offered to swing by the local co-op (who I will have to call to double check this would be okay) and pick up a quart+ of juice from the juice bar. Not sure what blend to get though. I think it was beet juice that helps with red blood count which mine was slightly lowered since I came in (still in normal range but can't hurt to raise it). Pineapple I know is anti-inflammatory but I don't know if that would also irritate the ulcerations?

Hi! I wouldn't take fruit juices with acids like pectin, orange, grapefruit etc. if possible- only green juices, carrot and beet juice plus wheat germ oil, flax oil, aloe and ginger. Wheat germ oil is very healing and provides vitamin e which can help the tisues repair themelves. The silica in the cucumbers is really good also for tissue repair. A silica supplement is also a good thing to get. You can get it in liquid form just about anywhere. The best sweet juice I would recommend would be coconut water because it is so hydrating. Maybe your parents could bring you 3 juices of pretty dark greens a day and you could water them down if necessary. How long has the hospital said they think they need to keep you?

Do you have a fever?

Intravenous drip

An intravenous drip is the continuous infusion of fluids, with or without medications, through an IV access device. This may be to correct dehydration or an electrolyte imbalance, to deliver medications, or for blood transfusion.

There are two types of fluids that are used for intravenous drips; crystalloids and colloids. Crystalloids are aqueous solutions of mineral salts or other water-soluble molecules. Colloids contain larger insoluble molecules, such as gelatin; blood itself is a colloid.

Colloids preserve a high colloid osmotic pressure in the blood, while, on the other hand, this parameter is decreased by crystalloids due to hemodilution. [2] However, there is still controversy to the actual difference in efficacy by this difference.[2] Another difference is that crystalloids generally are much cheaper than colloids.[2]

The most commonly used crystalloid fluid is normal saline, a solution of sodium chloride at 0.9% concentration, which is close to the concentration in the blood (isotonic). Ringer's lactate or Ringer's acetate is another isotonic solution often used for large-volume fluid replacement. A solution of 5% dextrose in water, sometimes called D5W, is often used instead if the patient is at risk for having low blood sugar or high sodium. The choice of fluids may also depend on the chemical properties of the medications being given.

No fever since Friday night which only lasted a few hours and was then gone. The attack came on Saturday night. Would I buy the aloe in liquid form? Also- what type of green juices would you recommend and how much per day? I'm hoping to check myself out of here by tomorrow.

Yes Aloe in liquid would be really great. You can mix it with other things. If you do need some fruit juice I think pear is the most soothing. I would have 3 juices a day and mostly celery and cucumber but other things can be added in like basil to make it taste different or better. Cabbage juice is really healing and can heal ulcers too. Thyme has an unusual taste but I crave it sometimes and it tastes really good to me. You might want to try it (with other juice of course as it it really strong). It has healing properties as well. I think rggs idea of blending avo is good too. It is also high in vitamin e.

I hope you feel better soon. Also get probiotics and blend with young thai coconut for a yogurt, or the milk to get your intestinal flora back in shape.

I hope you feel better soon!

yes experiment, what feels ok for one wont be for another...i cant do cabbage or its juice, but it might be ok for you...

ohh indeed young coconut is so soothing, just take it easy when first eating, its very cleansing esp the water ;)

pear is wondrous and so soothing i found, and the aloe gel was terrific!

please dont have anything acidic like pineapple of oranges..and probably not tomatos, peel everything,i still peel my apples and cucumbers and zuchinnis and carrots, til i am more healed :)

I tried the steamed veg too didnt make me feel good ,just yuk! no 80 10 10 wasnt best for my digestion,i suffered awfully still...no food would just fly out of me and give me terrible pain and cramps, and bleeding.

I take chinese herbs from my naturopath/integrated doctor, she blends them up herself,i take 4 different types, and an anti inflammatory protein powder she makes up,with lots of added minerals and tumeric,i am getting tremendous results from these...

As you are in such a bad way,i would say blend everything! juice and strain it,and dilute with water..what do you feel like eating/drinking?do you even feel like anything?

ginger tea~ soak thin sliced ginger root in warm water and sip water, dont eat the ginger, and please avoid garlic and onions

i eat moderate fat,low fruit intake, heaps of greens, lots of salads, ground seeds, young coconuts, avocados, some dulse leaf, soaked and blended nuts,sprouts...i am in a lot better health space than you right now,so go with what works for you, keep experimenting dont lose hope please :) you will get better....

when i was real bad with the uc,i would juice my vegs and greens, strain it,and blend with avocado and dulse leaf and eat that alot,it didnt seem to cause me too much pain...i would blend bananas with strained green juice too.i lived on this for a long time.

sleep and rest as much as you can,and avoid stress at all costs....xox

ps something that has guided me,is remembering that inside our bowel when its so inflammed, there are scabs and sores, and when i would think what should i be eating,i would think the softest least scratching food possible, hence my love for blending.:)

Yes I think ginger tea would be ok especially if you had some other herbs to put in it. The warm liquid may help soothe the intestines. If you know where the obstruction is you could massage that area and apply a heating pad to try to loosen it up.
What were you eating before that happened?

I have used heat and some light massage to help things move along, although it is very tender and not the most comfortable thing in the world. Oddly enough, I was mainly eating blended mango, bananas, banana-spinach smoothies, and blended papaya since Wednesday. Everything soft and avoiding fats (my body has troubles digesting them).

I have used this befor and it worked

Get real peaceful--- close your eyes and lay down. Go in your mind to the most beautiful place you can imagine and ask for an angel or deceased loved one to put their hands on you and give you healing.
I know it sounds a little strange but if you can align the mind the body will follow.

Work on getting serene and releasing all fear---fear will block any healing.

You can get to any where you want to be from here. Know that and relax into your well being. You can do this it takes practice--so practice.

Also say the one command when relaxed

"Even though I have no idea how I feel better and better I only know I do now and I am fufilled."

say this anytime you are afraid, say it when relaxed and in meditation

If you pay attention to when the "attack" happened you will realize you were in a bad place emotionally. Now pull yourself into a good place---the body will follow

I am sending love and blessings kim

I've met some hit chix on GITMR. Not satisfying in the least. Just the opposite. Most communication is self-defeating, accomplishes nothing. I would love it if people would leave me alone when I'm out and about. Anybody else?
