Give it to me Raw

I'm trying to decide where to spend the next few years of my life. I intend on backpacking with a bike and trailer and living the simple life for awhile. I just need to.

I have never been to any of these places. Just heard stories. Can you tell me some stories of what some of these places are like? I am a big-time fruit eater. But I do love my tender greens as well.

Where would you guys go, of the three choices, and why?

Right now it's looking like Hawaii. I'm going in September most likely.

Now decide which island.

been to Hawaii and i hated it. Really had a crap time there coz i had no money at all, and you do need some money in hawaii. The main issue was that I had no transport and there was virtually no public transport, I guess if you were in a tralier and had a bike it would be different. Also it has the normal American culture, I didn't really find that to be exactly magical or enchanting...lots of American tourists etc... my vote goes for Thailand. I was there too and loved it. It is a beautiful country, the people are just the best, so friendly and helpful. The culture is fascinating, the full moon parties are amazing. The islands dotted all over the coast are stunning and you are close to india, Malaysia etc so you can really get to explore Southern Asia from there very cheaply and easily. You will bump into a lot of other travellers doing the same thing so you can hook up and explore with them if you like. Hawaii is still the USA and you've lived there all your life right? A complete change of culture will work wonders for you, especially asia, you will love it. Go for the big adventure ;)

hm...I'll definitely think about Thailand. I have several months to work it out anyway. If I went to Hawaii, it would be to work on an organic farm and sleep in a tent. I had hoped it wouldn't be too expensive that way.

I guess I am spoiled having a beach house and a country home with land to grow some food too. I have a car that runs great and takes me hiking, to the beach and gets loaded with Coconuts too. Having a real estate license and a lot of friends and family here has helped me live comfortably. Contact me if interested in making big bucks while here with real estate investing.

There is a bus system on Oahu. It gets you everywhere you need to go for cheap. Some buses have a bike rack on them too.

you'll be off there soon then Natasha ;))

Peru! I lived there for two years and the people are great! If you are "awake" or "enlightened" there are sacred places to visit in Peru and enhance your spiritual journey! Good Luck!

honestly, thailand scares me a little. just stories. hawaii i think would be amazing and the safe way to go, but it can be soooo expensive and difficult to move there-especially if you have animals, it is a huge hassle. i think peru sounds exciting and interesting but i am not up to date on the goings-on there, not sure what to expect.
i am completely jealous of you for doing this. peace and may happiness find you.

Why not see the WORLD, learn a language, become part of another culture? Many Australians travel, live and work overseas and experience other cultures properly for at least a year after they finish school, not to mention Australians adults who travel overseas and love adventure more than virtually any other nationality - and the 5% of our population who are expats! We are all definitely far richer for it! Hawaii is merely a part of the USA - hardly a big cultural adventure, more like living the same old day over and over again, rather than a year of experiences and discovery. Swell the ranks of the tiny minority of your compatriots who have a PASSPORT - and live!

Well, that's ideal. I'm going to be able to save some money this summer, so I may just travel all winter depending on how much I'm able to gather.
