I'm trying to decide where to spend the next few years of my life. I intend on backpacking with a bike and trailer and living the simple life for awhile. I just need to.
I have never been to any of these places. Just heard stories. Can you tell me some stories of what some of these places are like? I am a big-time fruit eater. But I do love my tender greens as well.
Where would you guys go, of the three choices, and why?

Yes, ideally! I know once I simplify my lifestyle (i.e. not having to pay rent) I will be able to travel more frequently. I would like to go overseas, eventually.

I passed on some Hawaiian durians the other day. They weren't from Thailand!
You can always, always score coconuts in Hawaii. The best tangerines ever, everywhere and you can live on them (7 for $1), and always something to forage (guava, passion) on hikes etc.
I like how South America looks, and Latin America, like Bocas del toro, Panama etc.
Ecuador, Brazil. Hawaii is familiar.

Hawaii has durians - I like the sound of this. I've heard reports of Hawaiian durians before. How tempting...
I am a young coconut water LOVER. I simply can't get enough.
I love to forage for fresh fruit, absolutely LOVE IT.
Hawaii is looking promising.
Peru - interests me...because it's so distant and mysterious. I knew some missionaries growing up who lived there, and would stay with my family whenever they came back to the US, sharing stories. I heard the Peruvian people are wonderful. And that there is a ton of tropical fruit in the Amazon.
I need to be in a place where I can be sustainable, year-round.

I feel the same way about South America. I don't feel "tribal" enough, but it's good to live with less than you've been used to and to feel the "almost with nothing" kind of living, responsibly of course. And then trust grows, and that builds. Yeah Hawaii is "year round" which is key.
Moth - You might want to contact Kiani, a member of GI2MR who lives in Hawaii. I feel pretty certain there must be others as well. I visited Hawaii a couple years ago. My sister had a wedding on the Big Island and my daughter was stationed at an Army base on Oahu so I visited her there. There are a LOT of unemployed & homeless people on the islands, ... people who once arriving do not want to leave. I don't know anything about travelling the less populated areas, but when I was there I had a difficult time finding the really good Hawaiian grown fruit. I went to one Farmer's Market that was decent (but still disappointing because the selection was very limited). I was rather frustrated because the grocery stores had a lot of high-priced imported fruit. I thought that was really odd. Even the mangoes in the grocery weren't that great. The best fruit I could find was papayas. I know it's just a matter of finding the hot spots for the good fruit, but in my limited time there I couldn't find much. The fruit scene did not live up to my expectations, but I am sure it is because I didn't know where to get the good stuff

Michele - wow, that's hard to hear, about Hawaii's fruit!! It's the first time I heard a review like that about the fruit there. I know for a fact that Peru and Thailand are loaded with lots of yummy fruits, everywhere.
Moth, please don't decide against Hawaii based on my experience. You just need to know where to go ... like I said, the fruit "hot spots." I'm positive they are there! You just need guidance from folks in the know.
I discourage Thailand. In my opinion Thailand is a travel destination for average people to feel the exoticism of Asia. There are a lot of people there for sex tourism and partying. Granted, with your bike, you'd be able to escape to some extent, and I realize that this is a generalization and there are great parts and people in Thailand but it can be difficult to not be overwhelmed by wankers. My recommendation for South East Asia would be Laos.
By reading your replies however, it seems clear to me that you've answered your own question and should start with Hawaii. It's still America, they'll still speak English when you need (even thought the Thai for example are very English service fluent), and it will be a good first venture for you to investigate your sysems of travel, working out the kinks of your bike and pack lifestyle, gaining you confidence for exploring further locales in the future.
How did you get a Rosetta Stone with all languages? I'm interested!
Blessings and Blissings, Momentum and Manifestation! Happy Journey...
for people who becomes aware of this latest scandal, the one presented these recent days, and still are not deeply disturbed by this...for these people, nothing noone says can convince them to see the other perspective..for now.
yeah that is all fair to know, even though there's quite alot of attempts at personal attacks and discrediting people in these matters rather than just deliver straight answers to the questions.

After the third or fourth day I seem to function better then when I am eating heavy meals. My last fast I was walking eveyday. I just feel great when I am fasting.
I'm not denying the veracity of those emails... who knows. However, here is a little background on Tim Ball. I have a hard time trusting anything he says.
