Has anyone tried out wwoof? A plea for freedom.

I would suggest being really selective about what farm you go to. Ask for the email addresses of former volunteers. Interview the farmer. I've met people who have had really awesome experiences, but also the opposite.

I currently work with a farm that does WWOOF and it's really great, but I wouldn't want to WWOOF there because of the kind of food I would have to eat (my stomach had some terrible issues last time I ate there). That's something to think about because many farmers will find it rude if you refuse food.. I've eaten many things I really didn't want to eat and suffered for it because I didn't want to be rude.

durianrider and i did a wwoofing stint on a biodynamic mango and melon farm. it was so cleansing. 12lb of melon for breakfast, 10 massive mangoes for lunch and a bucket of mango celery soup for dinner.

the farmers were so happy cos we were so fit and keen to do the hard labour. and they didnt have to cook any food for us or wash up etc. and we got to give em some health tips to improve their athletic performance in regards to working harder and recovering faster.

some farms are too cooked, so find one that has ripe and quality fruit in real amounts so you can give your all and fuel up right and wake up strong and work long! :)

yeah, i had some couchsurfers stay with me who had woofed in hawaii.. they mentioned that the food that they had gotten was mainly what was left-over from the farmers market, whatever didnt get sold. so some of it might have been fine, but other stuff, after having sat out in the sun all day at the market, was no longer at its nutritional peak :( sad if youre doing all the work but dont end up with really good food in the end :( freelea's farm sounds awesome though :) alot of woofiing, at least here in ireland, is on animal farms (sheep and cattle), or farms that do both...so research carefully if youre not comfortable with that...as a vegan, i wouldnt be.... i was at this awesome, beautiful organic farm recently, it was really awesome, and i know the farm takes woofers...but it broke my heart to see the two friendly pigs that loved people and that the farmer prided himself on the fact that they were so friendly...but it broke my heart that they were only kept to be "fattened" to be killed later... :( i just dont get how people can "care" about animals but then betray them by taking away their lives. anyway, ill get off my animal rights tangent :) but yeah, do research carefully.
