Give it to me Raw

So, I am curious. Have any of you experienced hair loss or bad thinning of your hair after going high raw or 100% raw. I started having that problem and I am eating more cooked foods again because I am wondering if I was not eating enough or not getting a nutrient I needed. I am wanting to go mostly raw again, but im scared to. I have been to the doctor and I do not have blood sugar problems or anything else. I am a healthy fat chick. lol. They are running some tests right now for b12 and some other vitamins/nutrients stuff and I should know soon. Im really really hoping that I am not going through the thinning stage that alot of women get when they get older. My hair line is going farther and farther back, forhead seems to be getting larger. :( Any help.. any experience? I am now taking Super Primrose capsules everyday.. 1300 mg, I am taking a multi vitamin.. One n only is the name by Pure Essense lab.. and I take a teaspoon and a half of msm powerder everyday. My doctor was worried that the msm might be causing it. IDK

i've heard this is a result of not getting enough protein.

some people have higher protein needs than others. i need extra protein so i get it in the form of hemp and spirulina. i think i was experiencing some hair loss when i started raw 2 years ago, but included the super foods in so quick that it didn't last long. i'm not sure if it was the addition of extra protein that stopped it but i have a hunch it was. everything was so new then.

again, i've heard rumours that this is generally the case with others as well.

yes spirulina may help with hair growth too! i have seen this work with so many as well!

My hair started to thin after a couple of months of 100% raw vegan, I wasn't too concerned as it didn't seem excessive. After a while it stopped and amazingly enough, my hair is now softer and it somehow has more body than it did before the hair loss process.

I don't use shampoo or conditioner, but my hair seems to be as soft and vibrant as it did when I did use these things. The softness and bounce and health without any product still amazes me.

From my experience, I'm inclined not to think that hair loss is always a bad thing when transitioning to raw. I don't particularly understand the underlying factors, but I was always monitoring my other key health indicators and they consistently seemed to be indicating good health.

start adding coconuts to your diet. coconut oil to your smoothies. this helps to balance hormones as well. my hair is always thicker and more dense on more coconuts. i have seen this being done by people on cooked food too as well and getting as much results.
oil pulling, interestingly makes hair grow thicker too. i hope you find that helpful as well!

good luck. i gather it will only start growing back after your body adjusts itself to having raw or high raw.

have wanted to try the oil pulling. Never knew it might have some positive aspects regarding to hair. Will look into that. ^_^

I've actually experienced Hair Growth after going high raw. I find that I have to shave more often - yuck! The hairline hasn't moved forward though... it's just staying the same.

A good friend was just visiting whom has been experiencing hair loss ever since she started the 80-10-10 diet a little while ago. She paid to have Doug Graham consult her about this and his response was: "Wear a wig. Wear your baldness proudly." Can you believe it? No compassion and no suggestions as to why it was happening or how stop it from happening!

I'll tell her the theory about protein. That makes sense since hair is created from almost 100% protein.

I notice you are a new member. Are you are real person or just another fake person on this board that is just hear to slander people? Sharing your experience is great. The gossip stuff about who's friend said what you can leave out especially if is not constructive. We got more than enough of that stuff on this board.

Please refrain from talking badly about others.

Yes, this second-hand report doesn't match at all with the Doug I know and wonder if your friend gave you the full story.

Cam, I'm sorry I struck a sensitive note for you but I am no less real than you, so lets do leave out what is not constructive, thank you.

I was quite shocked at what Doug had told her, it was not in alignment with what I've felt in his presence and I would have expected a much more compassionate and helpful response. Maybe she was too upset to give the full story, as Debbie suggested, but that was what was shared. She is a wonderful person of light, a raw food chef, and is not someone who would make up such a thing for slander or anything negative - she continues to follow 80-10-10 because she believes in it.

Forgive me for sharing what I felt was relevant, perhaps I shouldn't have replied so soon after hearing about his response but that was my experience.

I'd love to hear what Doug's response is to this very real and sensitive issue from others whom have spoken to him about this very issue.

Thanks John,

Yes you did strike a cord. Good to know you are real.

As i think we both agree, without the full story, of which only your friend ultimately knows, we can't have an accurate account of what actually went on and in what context. If the information is inaccurate and distorted, then we can't form accurate conclusions.

I hope that you can see that by sharing an incomplete story you can be doing more harm than good.
A lot of people read these posts and form beliefs based on what you say. If 10 people read your post and think their hair is going to fall out because of the 80-10-10 diet and they pass that information on to 10 more people and so on, you can see how much of an impact it may have. All in the name of an inaccurate account of what happened.

I agree it is a sensitive issue, hence why my sensitive cord was struck when I read your post.

Cam, 80-10-10 must be working for you and that is fantastic, you are truly blessed. I have nothing against the program nor Doug.

All information received from outside of oneself is "distorted" as it can be "accurate" only for the one experiencing it. Everyone reading every post, all information for that matter, forms beliefs based upon how they choose to experience it. By your reactions, it appears you chose to believe my account was inaccurate and that I was attacking a program which you have vested interest in. I assure you I had no such intent.

Do we ever have the full story? What story is complete?

For those interested, here is an account in the words of my friend:

I've just read this. I cannot for the life of me see anything 'depressing and cryptic' in Doug's note, and...I'll say this as tactfully as possible...when people see communications that are really quite inoccuous, and trying to be helpful as 'depressing', I find that interesting in itself.

I feel many people would have seen it as just the opposite. The tone in general reads to me 'encouraging'.

I do think Doug could have made what he was saying in the first paragraph clearer. Doug is a very caring man who is always willing to expand upon what he has said if necessary. He also realises he can sound curt at times (although I don't think he did here) and is sensitive to that, and, again, will always help further if asked.

If your friend had asked him for further clarification, I know he would have given it. Did she, I wonder? Before publishing it on her blog with her comments that effectively damn the diet.

Your friend gives the impression, with the way she has worded her text preceding this that 'many' people lose their hair after 80/10/10. This is absolutely not the case. I have been on the 30BaD forum for quite some time now and I can assure you that if hair loss was common on the 80/10/10 diet we'd have heard about it. I'm not saying there's never been a post on it (can't remember), but it's certainly not usual.

Sometimes I think it would be easier if Doug's diet didn't have such a memorable name, as it has become such a soft target for those who are experiencing various things in their lives, and would like to blame a diet for it.

There must be many people who have experienced hair loss and a multitude of other symptoms on 'the low-fruit, lots of wheatgrass and sprouts-type diet', or 'the lots of colonics, chia berries and vegetable juice' diet, etc etc - there are posts here, and on other forums from those who did initially, temporarily, when going 'raw' ('raw' in general - any raw diet) but, as they haven't got the catchy name...
