Hi all! I've been on a green smoothie kick for about a month now, and I'm kind of worried because I'm not hungry for anything else?! I've been having one smoothie for every meal (breakfast, lunch, and dinner). I try to fit a sandwich in for lunch and salad in for dinner but my body keeps telling me it's not really hungry for the solid food... and so I don't eat it... Has anyone experienced this or can anybody give me advice on what to do? Thanks! =)

I think I have because my clothes are getting a little loose! But I've been about 50-60% raw since March and have just introduced green smoothies this past month. Typically I wake up around 5am and workout for 45-60 min., have a smoothie around 7am, get to work, have a smoothie for lunch at noon (sometimes a sandwich), and get home around 6 for another one. I've been making myself eat a salad wrap for dinner this past week because I was getting worried about my decreased appetite, but my stomach/body won't let me finish the whole thing...
The thing is, I otherwise feel really great and wake up craving nothing but green smoothies; but I want to be as healthy as possible and for some reason I just need reassurance that this situation is maybe normal??? I still consider myself relatively new to this lifestyle and so any of my raw knowledge has come from only reading forums and Ani Phyo's raw recipe book.
I think your body would be the wisest thing to listen to. If it is saying it is happy and keeps telling you that you are not hungry enough to finish things, maybe it is right! :)
dont be alarmed.your body is so chock full of nutrients and minerals, you wont be hungry..
i just had a kick ass smoothie for lunch, after i ran 9 kms in the howling winds over rough terrain, with my doggies...the i did 32 pushups....
10 bananas
2 tablespoons of ground flax(love how flax makes me look and feel)
1 pear
500mls of green veg juice, left over from this morn
dash of water
2 teaspoons of honey.
1 small head of cos lettuce.
divine best fuel ever...
dont eat more, cos you think you need to.if you want the sandwich and salad, then exercise more :)
doubt you will want it even then tho.xo

Wow 9 kms, that's awesome! I might have to try that smoothie recipe you've posted =). You mention that you love how flax makes you look and feel, how so? So far, I think avocados are my look and feel good food, but unfortunately they're way too packed in fat so I can't eat them as much as I could/want! I haven't incorporated ground flax into my lifestyle yet, do you recommend putting them in the smoothies?
hello Elle,i find digesting flax(ground up finely)much easier than avocado.
i do recommend putting at least 1 tablespoon in your smoothies, its so deliciously nutty.
flax energises me,and my skin is extra moist and hydrated when i eat it,ive really noticed an improvement in the last month, having it daily.
I have dropped weight, interestingly enough, after increasing my fat intake(and im not really eating any less fruit)..good EFA's(essential fatty acids)are a must, especially for us women~regulates our hormones ect~ xo

when I first went raw, I found that the less I ate...the less I wanted to eat. I felt great too but I don't think eating less and less is a good thing necessarily. I think doing liquids for a while is great but as long as it is focused with an end date in mind. I think when u give up solids, like on a juice fast, it's natural to stop craving solids after a while. And although you're presumably getting a lot more fiber with the smoothies, I would say think of getting in solids for at least one meal like lunch.
You may notice your appetite come back a little. I mean, it's only been a month so u may just want to watch for another week or so to see if you are gaining back your appetite for solids.

Hey thanks everyone for the wonderful advice! =)
AwesomeU- I usually put 2 handfulls of greens (this past week its been spinach), 1or 2 cups of water, and a handful of fruit (usually grapes, apples, mangos). This comes out to be about 10-12 oz. of smoothie per serving. Although this past week I noticed I've been putting more greens in, for a few days I was using 3 or 4 handfulls of greens because I was going to be really busy for the day and wanted to feel more energized..
i haven't done green smoothies lately-only green juice. but when i was i feel like it was similar. it was what i had for breakfast and not only was i just very happy but i was also seemed satisfied for a while afterward.

I have somewhat... the main reason I have been incorporating smoothies is that throughout life I have had stomach and digestive problems. I've learned that my body is really sensitive to anything I put in it and a lighter, raw food lifestyle is helping a lot (duh, or in other words... I am now a believer!) Anyways, smoothies are great! And it's just so surprising how satisfied I am after having one! Good luck =)
