Give it to me Raw

Has anyone else experienced this? I can eat leafy greens, varied in salads no problems (as long as not too many of the same it seems) but as soon as they are either smoothied up or juiced up I come out in spots all over my face within hours of consuming them.

What on earth is that all about? It is a shame as there are a few leafy greens which I wouldn't put in my salads so I am missing out on their goodness.

Has this happened to anyone else out there?

EV, I agree with you in principle--that it's not "natural" to juice; however, our plants have only a small fraction of the nutrition we evolved with--in just the last 50 years plants lost nearly half of their nutrition (conventionally grown, but we are all sharing this depleted planet, organic or not). I can only imagine how potent the plants were just a few human generations ago.

That's why I juice.

Maybe you could try making a green smoothie with one type of green and one type of fruit at a time? You could see better if it was certain things that are causing it. I like them this way better anyway and I think they are easier to digest. Pinapple/cilantro, pear/kale, banana/romaine, or peach/spinach, etc. Wish you the best!

Does it happen if you drink fruit juice? It sounds like the difference between your salad greens and your juice is fruit.

Thanks everyone SO much for your help with this!!
Rawzilla, I'm not so sure, I must try that, maybe just a carrot juice or just an apple juice etc.
Merci

The person who's advice I follow relative to green smoothies is Victoria Boutenko (www.rawfamily.com). Her advice is to keep the green smoothies very simple. Use only one type of green in each smoothie and rotate your greens every day so as not to build up toxins, such as oxalic acid. She also advises to only mix greens with fruit - not other types of veggies, such as carrots, etc. Also, only put in two or three types of fruit in one smoothie. Her website may give you some answers. You can probably determine if you are having an allergic reaction to something by starting from zero and trying one green and one fruit at a time. Would love to hear what you find out.
