Has anyone else experienced this? I can eat leafy greens, varied in salads no problems (as long as not too many of the same it seems) but as soon as they are either smoothied up or juiced up I come out in spots all over my face within hours of consuming them.
What on earth is that all about? It is a shame as there are a few leafy greens which I wouldn't put in my salads so I am missing out on their goodness.
not so sure about that....initially I thought it was related to a detox, but seeing as I still eat the greens whole and the spots never appear....it is wierd. I must admit I don't eat as much leafy greens as I would consume whilst juicing or smoothying....maybe I am intolerant to too much of something in these leaves.......it is really odd. I LOVE green juices so much but have to refrain. grrrrrrrrr
I just wondered if there was anyone else who had experienced this and could shed some light on it......
Hi Rawzi
From my experience with green smoothies berries/apples/pears with simple green leaves and nothing else added (maybe a bit of celery) are the only thing that doesn't seem to cause bloating or upset stomach etc.
I think keeping it simple is definitely key. I used to add everything including the kitchen sink and would end up causing mayhem in my guts/skin. In the past I used carrot juice as a base or used bananas as my fruit and sometimes I used kale as part of my greens but found any of them included now do not work for me.
One apple or pear and some berries + greens that's it!
Sorry I'm a bit dense - I don't count celery as a 'green' with my green smoothies as I rely solely on the actual leaves e.g. romaine, spinach, chard etc. I find that if I'm eating fruit that pears and apples and berries really are the only things I can get away with. citrus is out totally, tropical fruits don't mix well with me (being from west of scotland) and high sugar fruits affect my skin quite badly esp bananas.
Yes I think the more 'superfoods' I added the more of a bad combination it turned out to be.
Emma, I did use fruit in the smoothies, ie, apple or mango with spinach or watercress or swiss chard, the juices, were normally green lemonades, so , cuke, celery, lemon, apple and greens (normally a mix of swiss chard, parsley, watercress, rocket, cabbage or romain etc).
Omshanti, I used a variation of spinach, rocket, swiss chard, watercress lambs lettuce, romain, cabbage (a little) and parsley or any spare herbs going.
Jacob, no never contipated happily so either with or without the smoothies or juices.
I've had and read similar experiences but usually it's down to the fruit sugar or a combo of fruit and fat creating small bumps across forehead or around jawline. Is this what's happening? This is the first I've heard of greens causing acne problems, usually it's the only thing that can be eaten without causing any problems...
I know what you are talking about with regards to the small bumps on forehead etc, initially on my raw journey, I had that too but narrowed it down to too many nuts so once I cut these down, the bumps disappeared. Unfortunately the spots I am getting when consuming juices or smoothies are red, large sore spots all over the face (just the face bizarely so). They eventually increased to create clusters mainly on the side of my forehead and lower cheeks but a few scatterings all over too.
Once I cut out spinach from my diet totally, these spots reduced and the redness and soreness lessened, but I still had alot of persistant spots .....it wasn't until I completely cut out drinking smoothies and juices (which I drank more so than smoothies) did the spots clear up. I am now spot free since not consuming the green drinks. It is totally beyond me as I stated before, I am still consuming the same greens (except spinach) but as a whole vegetable not a blended or juiced version of.
loulou if spinach was causing you problems it may be the oxalic acid in the swiss chard as well. Stick to greens without oxalic acid and see if that makes any difference - so have more kale, romaine etc. I'm not sure if watercress has it or not. Maybe experiment a bit (if you're game!!)
That sounds like a good topic to discuss! Thanks Lee. I thought it would be great if raw was the final destination before ascension because I don't see people who are really into it going back to eating meat or junk food.. but maybe you meant that...

Hi April,
We get a fair number of applicants, and it varies all the time.
It is absolutely NOT required that someone be raw for any length of time. What is required is that someone be truly open and coachable.
This is paradigm-busting stuff bas...
