Hi everybody,
after being pretty much raw for like 4 weeks and feeling calm, focused and really really happy, two days ago, because of a social dinner ,i gave up and ate a lot of pizza and pasta, and the next day too...
the result was that i felt nervous, anxious and i actually busted into tears so hard ...
can it be related to grains?
I went for a whole month with no grain, had some white rice recently, and was in tears and felt depressed the next morning. I don't doubt it was the grain. I thought rice was neutral to my body. My poor little brain! Doug Graham might be right!
So, I'm wondering about the "non-grain grains" like quinoa and wild rice..................They're actually seeds. So far, I seem to digest quinoa very well and feel good on it. I cut back on my fruit, down to two pieces a day, and incorporated quinoa for breakfast (cooked.....) and my brain is working better.
I agree that grains, gluten bread etc have an effect on our emotions. They always cloud my brain, and I can't think straight when I eat them. Same with meat.
Hey Rawzi.
When the grains have been sprouted they make me feel good.
When they havn't been sprouted I tend to get a toxic build up. My skin begins to feel extremely acidic, and I quite often have to go down to the gym for a sauna.
No I havn't tried rejuvelac... what's that??
.
All meat makes me feel sick. I live on an organic farm here in NZ with access to some of the healthiest grass fed beef in the world... and it still makes me feel like crap!!
I've only ever tried it cooked, so I couldn't give a raw comparison.
Red meat tends to have a more dramatic effect than white meat does.
And I will admit, freshly caught fish straight off the boat does make me feel good.
If I eat grains I get depressed and can start crying like you describe. It makes a little difference if it is whole grain and if it is raw, but not that much. I think some people just can't handle grains, and I'm one of them.
How about sprouted quinoa and amaranth??? I am cautious with them because I'm scared they might be grains although botanically they say that they're not. Has anyone else been eating them sprouted, and how do you do it, for how long, make quinoa-milk etc..?
I love Suvines answer.
The other night I ate some cooked beans and I felt so yucky afterward that it make it a TRUE PLEASURE to go back to my raw.
The messups only spiral us higher I believe. They have their purpose so I say bless them and keep moving forward.
I would posit that the absence of grains is one of the reasons people do well as fruitatarians. Grains are "new" as a significant source of food for humans. Other primates do not consume them and we didn't until quite recently on the evolutionary time scale. There are many problems with them in terms of anti-nutrients, carcinogens, leaky-gut causing molecules, and immune system reactions.
Wheat is probably the most well-researched in terms of dangers, but other grains can simply irritate the digestive tract. I personally haven't ever been able to digest wheat or even non-grain-grains like quinoa properly, even when sprouted. I have had some success with rice either fermented or prepared with vinegar. It's on my "Not So Bad Cooked Foods List" but that list is probably different for everyone.

He's still my hero, but I heard the guy was tyrannical and cruel to his family and co-workers. Marlon Brando talked about what a douchebag he was in his book; still though, comic genius.
OK, I guess to me getting rid of anger and envy and fear in ones self before being able to externalize it on a corporate scale just seems common sense as opposed to religious. Is that really religious? Or is it just that he is a Yogi addressing th...
Rome was AWESOME, another fantastic HBO series. True Blood is also pretty cool, but I read the books so it's bittersweet for me. Did anyone else catch Carnivale? That was really well done as well.
