Atheist.

I think that religions were necessary for a large portion of our development as a social species, to explain those things that we don't understand (weather, nature, etc...) and as we learned more, it lost it's necessity. This is why it's now largely used by a small number of people to control large segments of the population.

That being said, many people need to believe that there is "something more". For these people, religion serves as a psychological and philosophical base.

I do have to say that it's humorous to see all the former catholics that are atheists. A friend of mine and I used to say that catholic school was just "Atheist preparation".

Hi Matt! I was wondering if you could go into more detail here. Because I know a lot of people who consider themselves athiest but then are really into animal rights and stuff.

Do you have another area that you feel is valuable in life?

Absolutely. I find that many people mistake religious for morality and atheism for immorality.

I am most passionate about education, environmental activism and would like to see the world lose it's corporate structures.

One day robots are going to be doing 95% of all production for us, so while Republicans are very anti-socialist, the current trend will inevitably lead (in sometime between 25 and 50 years from now) to there being only two options - no jobs (and no ability to purchase) or socialist world. The highest goal should be to start now to guide the world to become a society that is compatible with that eventuality. The first step should be unlimited education at no charge. I would rather hire a few hundred professors to populate a good website for self education allowing people to learn what they want, at their own pace than keep the current cycle of "Learn 19 items that you don't care about so you can learn 1 thing that you do care about".

Environmentally, I think that we need to take our garbage situation more seriously. A large portion of every barrel of oil is used to create plastics. If we fully recycled all of our garbage (composting food matter, recycling everything else), then we would eliminate the need for expensive fertilizers, could significantly reduce our oil consumption, lower our mining needs.

I would say that those are my two big things. Education and recycling/environment. There are other things, like gay marriage, polyamory rights, etc... but most of those boil down to a libertarian social view, which boils down to "mind your own business and let people mind their own too".

This is really interesting Lee! That makes sense on a theoretical level but on a practical level a lot more can get accomplished when your friends are there to help you.. not your enemies..

I don't think this exists for humans yet, unfortunately - but what I think would be the healthiest mattress (and virtually free of dust-mites, even bed-bugs which inflict some homes recently) for humans would be the same as the healthiest for pets...
