Give it to me Raw

I thought this was like a super bad combination of foods no? So many people are mentioning their fruit smoothies with avocado or nuts, and so many recipes on goneraw are combos of fruits and nuts.

Am I missing something? is it OK to eat these things together? or are people just thinking more about taste than digestion? trust me I'd love to not give a damn about combining foods but it's kind of a necessity right now.

Some people choose to eat harder to digest combinations of foods because they prefer the taste over health and proper digestion.

To each their own. :)

Yea I've read this about not combining the foods....like they say not to even combine high acidic foods with low acidic foods, like.....dont have pineapple with banana, rara, cos it messes up your digestion....flow...

um the site i looked up..(if your allowed to post links up here) was... www.rawreform.com if you download (for free) her 10page journal or whatever it is, she goes into what foods to not combine together, for that reason.... but i'm only on day 3...so im taking one step at a time, and combining whatever i want for now. :)

good luck for you though.... :)

That's a good point Pete. I think a lot of people have gallbladder\pancreas problems that are messing everything in their bodies up. Especially people over 30. I have had more success lately putting hemp in cacao smoothies. It is low in fat but high in protein so it sticks with you better. The only thing is if I have a smoothie like that I get out of the mood for having more "real" food (ie low glycemic). I think I am going to give up the agave and just do stevia for a while. Like a stevia, hemp, avo, cacao smoothie.

Personally I've never had a desire to use sweeteners like stevia, agave, etc. If I want to add sweetness to a smoothie I'll add banana. That's plenty sweet for me. Dates would probably work well too. Also, if your using cacao, adding seeds from vanilla bean will bring out the desirable flavors of the cacao, enabling you to use less sweetener.

I've often read that avos are a fruit. The fat is not a processed fat (try whizzing avo in just plain water, the oil doesn't separate). I'd think twice about a fruit smoothie with a big lump of cocoa butter, but maybe some people can do it.

I've thought the same thing about orange juice and bananas, but horses for courses, aye?

Maybe these combos are doable in the transitional stage, but as we go deeper, we have to refine things. There are so many things that I can't eat anymore as they would wipe me out for days.

...I say, if you're making it work...go for it. When/if it stops working...check out your combos :)

I have terrible skin problems when I combine fruit and fat. My skin erupts into one big mess. Lots of small pimples, some bad larger ones. I have experimented long enough with different combinations to know that this is a FACT for my body. Obviously , I now never combine the two, and I have no problems. It makes me really sad, though, because I love salads with fruit and nuts combined with a drizzle of olive oil. This is about THE worst thing I can eat. My stomach / digestion handle it just fine.. it's just the complexion that goes crazy. Also, my under eye area gets pretty puffy when I combine the two.
I've found that avoiding high fat in general is just better for me ... but it's difficult because I need that "satiated" feeling I get from oils and fats in nuts... especially in the winter...

I totally have the same problem. My skin has been HORRIBLE for the last couple of months. And it was all because of my tahini dressing in my salad. Since I have stopped eating that my digestion has gotten so much better and my skin is slowly but surely clearing up. It really sucks though because I LOVE tahini. I could eat it straight out of the jar. Do avos bother you? In terms of feeling satiated - just eat more, I guess. A good dressing is water, lemon, orange, scallion, and a small nub of garlic mixed in the blender. It tastes like it should have oily goodness in it but is oil free. I have been using this to ween myself off of the tahini and I thought origionally I would be missing it but I am really not. Sometimes I like to put a wee bit of avo in my salad and that kind of softens and gives it a bit of creamyness.

I use to be able to eat that way. I could eat a half a pound of mixed raw nuts with no problem. then i started doing a modified 80/10/10 and even a handful of nuts leave me bloated and regretful. i think the more pure your body becomes the less likely it is to tolerate the fats and the weird combos. Personally, I am a big foodie so I am not willing to sacrifice taste. I am on a quest to create nut-free dishes esp. for things like Thanksgiving and Christmas when I have a tendency to over eat. I don't have a problem with mixing fruits though which is good because I love pineapple and banana together. I can also take natural fats pretty well - like avocado.

Hi Alysha! I'd be interested to see some of the things you come up with that are more nut free but fun enough to be considred holiday food! Make sure and message me if something is great so I don't miss it!

I will definately update you with my findings. I am making food tomorrow for thanksgiving, or well, prepping, so if anything is good i'll let you know before thanksgiving!

so mixing some fruits with others is bad? I figured that avo wouldn't go with fruits because its fatty but I can have my smoothies right? my basic smoothie is 1 bannana, apple or orange, handfull of rasp/black/strawberries(all three), sometimes mango, sometimes lemon, always a bunch of romain lettuce (I have a whole bunch I am trying to use before it goes bad, then it will be baby spinach). is that ok?

I don't think this exists for humans yet, unfortunately - but what I think would be the healthiest mattress (and virtually free of dust-mites, even bed-bugs which inflict some homes recently) for humans would be the same as the healthiest for pets...
