Give it to me Raw

It's my first one. I just wanted to do a 24-hour water fast.

I flew home late Monday night to an apartment with no food and a pocket with no money. I decided I would do a 24-hour water fast and stop at the grocery store after work to pick up food for the following day.

So Tuesday I woke up and I felt like I was coming down with something. My only symptom was a little congestion/runny nose (which I had had for a few days), but I decided to do the fast, anyway. I felt like shit all day. I drank a ton of water. Felt stoned, hungry (obviously). That night I went to sleep at 9 PM.

I experienced restless sleep. I woke up every hour. I had bad dreams. I woke up with a raging headache, low fever, sore throat, aches. I drank a large glass of water every time I woke up.

Then in the morning the fever had subsided, my throat wasn't as bad, my headache was gone.

...and today I still feel kind of shitty, but not as bad as last night.

Hmm, I guess I shouldn't do water fasts when my immune system is compromised in any way.

Or do you think it is helping me heal?

Sounds like classic detox to me. I've had even worse to happen.

yes your immune system was focussing on detox...you will feel worse for 3-4 days and then you will begin to feel amazing as your body goes into ketosis which is when it really begins to clear and repair. I have done this a number of times... I did a 40 day water fast which actually saved my life...Now since I was born on a tuesday this is my rest day... The original sabbath before the silly old men took control.

a water fast every 7th day on the day of the week you were born was an ancient tradition I learned from a guy name Don Tolman. Its a great way to keep your body strong, clean and steadfast.

to fasten
to hold fast

In other words to strengthen....:-)

Do you go on retreat when you do 40-day water fasts? I can't imagine going into the office everyday on a water fast. One day was hard enough for me. I'll give it another shot next week, though.

Does this mean you should fast every week, on the day you were born?

It's funny, I did the same thing. I too came home to an empty fridge on Monday night after traveling all day, and I didn't feel like running to the store, so I fasted yesterday as well (Tuesday) and I was born on a Tuesday - that's interesting.

did you wake up with a fever??

I've actually been suffering from a cold, that I thought I was getting over. I did feel like it was coming back for a bit yesterday, but today I'm much better. I think I did have a low grade fever.

Yea! I had some mild congestion and sinus problems (no coughing) that I had been dealing with for about 3 or 4 days prior, so I thought I was getting over it, as well, but then *BAM*. Hit me hard last night and I still feel out of it today. I don't know if I did myself a favor by fasting or made it worse.

Thanks for sharing Matty, that's interesting to me, because when I had plans to start fasting once a week I thought Sunday would be a good day to start, but before Sunday came I felt an urge to just do it on Friday and I've kept doing it on Fridays... I was born on a friday... it could be the case that you are drinking a bit much water Jasmine, I'm under the impression that you don't need to drink unless you're thirsty, though I do know that drinking water can help you to relieve cravings, tension, etc. but beyond that I think this was a successful first fast! It gets easier everytime you do it, congrats on sticking with it!

No, it needs all three. Flavor and ratio, not just equal parts of every component.
