Give it to me Raw

in the sunfood diet, david wolfe mentions that you can add fats with sugar ie fruits. he says this cuts the sugar absorption and releases it slowly into the blood stream. he suggests using nut milks or any kind of fats with fruit. 811 says that this is bad because the sugar becomes trapped and causes insulin spikes. (correct me anyone if i'm off here) anywho, has anyone found that they do fine with fruit and fat combinations or finds that david wolfe is correct in combining fat with sugar?

repeat combos of fat + sugar at same time or back and forth over the course of the same day make me fat.
Not milks though; hemp or brazil nut milk I use and was never a problem. If I get into nuts or butters or big servings of avo and flip flop with fruits I blimp out. I think sticking with either Doug Grahams plan or Gabriel Cousens' Phase Plan is best. One or the other. OR eat very very little, VERY little amounts as a calorie restricted plan like Matt and Angela do > they eat fruit and fat but lots of green juice and liquids and not much solid food in very little portions.

Matt and Angela also take lots of supplements, yeah?

like Vitamin D and calcuim?
to my knowledge they take none. all I do know - they eat chlorella, thats an algae food and use marine phytoplankton. Even if one calls those "supplements" that is not "a lot"

i do much much better combining bits of fat/ protein with fruit. I have been losing weight and my acne is gone since i started eating this way last month. It helps balance out my hormones

I am fine with fruits and fats together. Some people cannot eat them together. We are all so beautifully diverse, different and interesting.
Graham's theory doesn't make any sense. Sugars get taken right up into the blood through the small intestine, but fats are circulated through the lymph system and changed into sugar before being added to the blood. Basically, the body runs on sugar, whether you get that sugar from fats or directly from sugar. So I don't think fats can get into your blood and "trap" sugar there.

That does make sense, Rawstrength. Also, the presence of fats tends to stop such high-glycemic spikes in the first place for many people.
Chia has a specific effect of loweing the glycemic index of whtever you add it to, so it might be a good fat to add to smoothies. I say to just experiment and find what works.

our cells are constantly being in contact with lymph fluid. excess fat consumption leads to high fat levels in the lymph and high fat contact with cells.

cells get coated in fat, oil being the worst ( no animal in nature cooks its food or makes oil) and the excess fat coats the insulin receptor sites. this slows sugar uptake and creates high blood sugar or stimulates excess insulin production which can create hypoglycemia..

people whom do high intensity exercise activate the lymph system and process the fat faster, hence why type 2 diabeties is rare in extremely fit individuals..
solution? aim for under 10% of total fat cals for the year..

rawstrength, it's not 'graham's theory.' It's commonly understood physiology, as far as I know.

I certainly don't do fine with overt fat and sweet fruit together. I get a jittery feeling. I feel an insulin response kicking in. Not for me.

I agree with mish. The secret is figuring out what your individual body requires to thrive. High fruit sugar + 10% total fat might work for some individuals. It will not work for all of them. Some people need higher (healthy) fats at times. Some can thrive on less. Some will do well on high greens and low fruit sugars.

I also agree with Raw Strength. I have studied biochemistry and human GI processes and the textbooks also agree with her. Your cells do not get "coated in fats "(your cell membranes are made of cholesterol anyway), but non enzymatic glycosylation (diabetes) is for- real and happens to folks who cannot process sugars correctly.

Is 'coated in fats' really the way Doug Graham explains this? I don't have the 811 book with me to reference, unfortunately.

I've never read a book on the subject and find it quite abstract. Sugars are in nearly everything. Can somebody give a concrete example of a fat + sugar combo meal (or the opposite) so that I can understand a bit better?

I apologize in advance for my ignorance :)
