Give it to me Raw

Fasting - Master Cleanse, Juice Fast - what's best??

My body is telling me like RIGHT NOW(!!) that it wants to fast. Raw has not been so plain sailing for me since the beginning of the year and I've had some cooked junk 'relapses' which are becoming more and more frequent. The only 'positive' thing that I take away from this is the feeling that this is a very unnatural way of eating that I don't actually enjoy - ie I can never go back to cooked junk as a 'normal' way of living - because my mind and body know that it isn't. When I'm on raw - I'm sailing!!

So, I need to cleanse, to reset and want to do this by fasting. Now i've done the Master cleanse before - senna tea, salt-water flush, 'spicy lemonade' for just shy of two weeks. It wasn't necessarily easy going but the end of the fast and the transition into raw was amazing! But I have a nagging feeling that the Master Cleanse is so devoid of nutrition, that its not the best thing to do.

Okay - so juice feast then!? Yes but how do I do that and still hold down a full time job?? I like drinking my juice fresh and don't like the idea of drinking it over 7 hours. So how do you juicefeast when you work?? (and enema lol!)

Could I do a combination? Master cleanse in the day and juice feast in the evenings when I'm back home?? David Wolfe suggests something similar in one of his videos (although he says honey instead of maple syrup) But is mixing the two just defeating the object?

Oh and to salt water flush or do enemas?? (I've never done the latter)

I need to get back on my game kids!!

Mucho love-o.

okay so i have some experience with juice feasting i have felt how wonderful and nourishing it feels for my body but i havent sustained myself soley on juice but i have felt the high energy and great health of it so basically i wøuld suggest mixing up a wide variety of greens and fruits but to keep melon seperate from other fruits unless you want to try it for yourself but to make juices in a blender with water then to filter out the pulpy skins with a nut milk or sprouter bag the juice is just so nutrient dense and beet apple juice is very cleansing, coconut water is very full of electrolytes lemon is full of alkalinizing properties and to be honest you are going to have to be the conductor of this whole experiment and it is worth the try because i have had an abundance of fruit and greens and it just makes sense to juice it all but my mouth really wants the feeling of chewing an apple instead of drinking it, but im going †o jump into feasting again within 2 days i have so much fruit i will need †ø so it will be used sufficiently i hope i have helped some and enemas are wonderful i have done 3 different kinds within the last week 2 kombucha enemas i chlorella micro algae enema and 3 bentonite clay enemas i had the best results with the micro algae enema, tell me what is in your mind and lets work through this together we are both very important components not only in øur own health but in the inspiration of many other peoples health. -Anthony Poshepny

Hi Anthony, what you say about juice feasting resonates with me deeply. The sound of all the fruits and greens you have ready for your feast sounds delicious!! That's how I can tell I'm craving raw! LOL! Maybe I just need to buy a huge cooler/flask so I can prep huge amounts of green juice that I can drink throughout the day at work. Taking my juicer to work is not an option!!!

So enemas - they sound good as well. Tell me, when i do the salt water flush, it takes the best part of 3 hours for everything to go through my system. How long does it take to to do an enema from start to finish??

it basically only takes 15 or so minutes for me to do an enema i start out with pouring my filtered water into the enema bag i like to put either bentonite clay or actually i really like putting chlorella powder within the water so it can clean out my intestines as well as the water, i put raw coconut oil on the nozzle that goes up your butt and and i also like to do a head stand while i do the enema or bend over with my head and torso near my knee so that gravity brings the water within my intestine through my rectum. then after all the water flows up your butt you can hold it in if you would like or you can sit on the toilet thats what i do but i wasnt taught how to do enemas i was totally self taught and hahahhah it clears out alot of poop in the intestines. its cleansing really alot.

I've done the master cleanse for seven days. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be and definitely cleansed my system (I don't know how much healing it did, though). I've only done short-term juice feasting (24 hours), but intuitively, that seems like the healthier option. Myriad fruits and veggies packed with nutrients vs. lemon and maple syrup?

I would say give the master cleanse a shot at some point in your life just for your own experience.

Hi jasmine, yeah, i did the master cleanse about a year ago for 14 days and yes it did the job, but it's like you say - when I think of the juice feast, I get that intuitive sense (with a lot common sense!!) that's its better for my body!!

If you don't mind me asking, why did you only do a 24hr juice feast?

Fasting is best. A fast is water only.

See www.rawfoodexplained.com for the benefits of fasting.

I would agree.

I agree too. If you want to give you body a restart without sloughing off valuable parts of your intestinal lining...water fasting is the right choice.

i did the master cleanse several years ago for three weeks and went to work... i did enemas in the morning and at night (coffee AM, chamomile or lemon PM). depending on your energy levels and what you need to do (like drive a car or attend meetings) you may want to "tier" your fast... you know, your reflexes are slower on a fast and your energy level might dip way down. for me, i have lots of energy during fasts -- but i'm use to them and do well on them. other people have a much harder time. water fasts can be very difficult, especially if you're working and running errands, etc.

anyway, consider something like this:

regular diet...
1 day only fruits/veggies (think simple mono meals)
1 day green smoothies or simple raw soups
1 day juice fasting
1 day master cleanse or only water (weekend or more down time around this period)
1 day juices
1 day smoothies or simple raw soups
1 day mono meals
back to regular foods

i recommend looking at Elson Haas' The Detox Diet or Staying Healthy with Nutrition and Jeremy Saffron's The Fasting Handbook

Both water fasting and juice fasting / juice feasting are excellent, and both should be practiced. A juice fast is the best one to start with, drinking about 80% vegetable juice and 20% fruit juices.

A water fast is great and takes a little more planning and discipline. You should be able to do one to three days on a water fast with no problem. The hardest part is breaking the fast, if you break the water fast with too much food, or the wrong food, you could damage your digestive system. You also need to take time off work to do a water fast. I tried to work during my water fast and almost fainted when I was driving to the office. The next day I took the bus, and after work I could barely walk to the bus stop because I had very little energy.

With a juice fast, you can make a gallon of juice in the morning and drink it throughout the day. The juice will provide adequate energy and you can work and exercise with no problem.

Before doing a water fast, read Herbert Shelton's books on fasting, he is the best. http://www.juicefeasting.com has good info, here are all the Google pages on Juice Feasting.com: http://www.tinyurl.com/juicefeast

It sounds like you are not eating enough fruit. If you eat more sweet fruit, your desire for candy and other processed foods that are sweet will go away.
