Give it to me Raw

Anyone else here eat bugs? Do you eat them raw? I've had wild ants and crickets, and I tried a grub once (not an experience I'd like to repeat anytime soon). I'm thinking of starting my own dorm-room cricket farm to supply me with crickets through the winter. I bet that crickets soaked in tamari and dehydrated until crispy would be a tasty snack. Raw crickets taste like raw shelfish only richer and less salty/fishy.

I've not had any insects. But saw a TV program about Amazonians eating live swarming termites. The moderator said they taste like a delicate brazil nut, only moving. L love nuts, so I'd try that one in a heartbeat.

Yes, I am learning that if grasshoppers are not well-nourished, they will eat each other. They also like eating their eggs and babies.

Once when I was a child I met a family who was into eating insects and were giving out cookies with insects baked in them. I didn't partake. Haha.

I don't think I could stomach eating bugs... but I do get a kick out of watching my cats follow their instincts eating hornets, grasshoppers, lizards, whatever they can catch. :)

wow were they survivalists? What kind of cookies\bugs? Grasshopper goodies?

what is that a pic of? I never thought of that- but that would make sense to catch bugs and dehydrate them and then grind them into a high protein powder. I wonder if body builders would eat that? It would also make a great dog food. I think you'd have to raise the bugs somehow- not sure how you could catch that many bugs..

That's why bluegreen algae would be so great to grow- no running around trying to catch something!

i know many tribes in northeast eat those. raw crickets are savored there. food is limited in those areas and they eat those but it has been so with those tribes since ages. so even if tribe people go out and about in the city and get their own life they still savor these things as food. i have also read about raw crickets being tasty and good in different ways.

Query: Technically speaking, isn't a lot of seafood actually ocean "insects" (crab, lobster, etc.)?

I don't think this exists for humans yet, unfortunately - but what I think would be the healthiest mattress (and virtually free of dust-mites, even bed-bugs which inflict some homes recently) for humans would be the same as the healthiest for pets...
