Give it to me Raw

I think my 18 month old daughter has an ear infection. Does anyone have any good remedies for this? I have heard garlic juice, onion juice, or olive oil in the ear, but I'd really like to know if anyone has tested these out. Thanks.

Pain relief is the immediate goal with any baby I think. A warm washcloth compress and rocking alot always seemed to sooth quickest for mine. I dont know enough about the cause of the ear infection to offer suggestions as to a possible remedy. Does she have a cold? Could it be a swimmers ear from playing in the bath? Is there a smoker in the house? Any number of things could be the culprit and obviously, solutions would differ with each possibility. I used to smoke. I stopped just before getting PG with the youngest of the 6. Could be coincidence, but shes never had an ear ache versus the oldest who was in to see an Ear, Nose & Throat Specialist WEEKLY at age 6.

Praying for you both.

She is congested, and running a low fever. She keeps pointing to her ears and throat and telling me that they hurt. She went swimming last weekend so that could be it, but it seems that she has a cold too. There are no smokers in the house, she is not around other children much, and she is still breastfed.

Thank you.

A cold will have to run its course, but building up the body cant hurt. An alkalinizing diet shouldnt be difficult if she is still breastfed. Make sure she is well hydrated though....at 18 months sometimes they slow down a bit and mom forgets to up the fluid intake to counterbalance. I always rubbed garlic oil on the outside of the ear...behind the ear on the head/neck actually. I always hesitate to put anything IN the ear. NOW I would more than likely add Young Living brand essential oils to a protocol. The Essential Oils Desk Reference say this for Earache:

Single Oils: Thyme, lavendar, tea tree, rosemary, helichrysum, roman chamomile, ravensara, peppermint, eucalyptus radiata
Blends: Melrose, Purification, PanAway, Thieves (diluted), Immupower

TOPICAL APPLICATIONS: Dilute 50:50 in warm olive oil or fractionated coconut oil. Apply 2 drops to a cotton swab. Using the swab, apply traces to the skin around the opening of the ear, but not in it. Put 2-3 drops of the diluted essential oil on a piece of cotton and place it carefully over the ear opening. Leave in place overnight. Additional relief may be obtained by placing a warm compress over the ear.

VITA FLEX: Massage 1-2 drops of the the prepared oil on ear lobes and on ear Vita Flex points on the feet.
Looking at the reflexology charts, the Vita Flex points for the ears are located on the pad of the 4th & 5th toes on both feet (the little toe and the toe next to it). The vita flex points for sinuses, which are often related to the ears when an earache is involved, are at the base of all the toes...where they attach to the foot. Gentle massage on these points with the garlic oil was a prescription I was given by an ND years ago.

CAUTION: Never put essential oils directly into the ear. Ear pain can be very serious. Always seek medical attention if pain persists.

I had an ear infection once, about a year ago. I used apple cider vinegar in my ear. It was so incredibly painful! I wished I hadn't done it and it really killed. Thing is, the next day, my ears were all cleared up and pain-free. Sooo, maybe a highly diluted water/acv mix? Just thought I'd share this. Wish you all the best!

Grapefruit Seed Extract is another good one, that's what my friends use, and alot of customers i had, i've heard good things about some homeopathic remedies on small children, but those are either made with lactose or alcohol.

also give her alot of vitamin c, from oranges, strawberries, cherries, and peppers

i'll be praying for her

Grapefruit Seed Extract works really well but you MUST dilute. Undiulted it is so concentrated it will eat the skin off of any type of mucous membrane. I have used it for earaches and it works well.

Put 3 drops of GSE in 1/4 cup of carrier oil like coconut oil, olive oil, etc. Do not use anymore GSE than that or it will be too strong. I have a little container made up that I use as needed.

For future reference, with adults you can cut a piece of garlic to the shape of a plug with one side fitting in the eat and the other side too big to go into the ear. Place the piece in the ear for 30 minute to an hour. Garlic is a strong antimicrobal and, sometimes it may sting a little initially, it will also numb the area.

Good luck with y our little one.

Thanks for all the advice. Any tips for congestion? Her cough is not sounding so good either.

I use homeopathic eardrops containing chamomile when my kids have ear pain. It is sold even at the local Wal-Mart believe it or not so should be easy to find. Not sure if anyone threw this one your way or not but some of my ancestors are hispanic and the remedy used for an ear infection..................hold on for this one............have her pee on a cotton ball, squeeze it out and tuck it neatly in her ear. I have a portuguese friend that is 29 now and still uses this remedy every single time she gets an ear infection and completely swears by it! Don't shoot the messenger :) As for the cough is she croupy, overly mucous, what color is she coughing up if anything? I have a lot of experience with coughs having 2 kids. Basic tips.........NO dairy, lots of fresh water.
