Dramatic Rise in Fruit and Veg Allergies...WHAT!?!?

This is so crazy! How can this be??

It makes me wonder what exactly ARE allergies and what has gone so wrong with our lifestyles and in our environment to cause these reactions to the foods that are supposed to be optimal for us??

Anyone notice the can of coke on the table in front of the boy? Is he being tested for that too or is it just part of his lunch?? ;)

Insecticides play a big part in this I'm sure and like DR said, you need to know what you're doing on a fruit diet. You combine it with the wrong stuff or yeah get bad quality or under ripe fruit you get into trouble with it.
It took me while to get it all right even with the information I have access to, most people don't have the faintest clue about food combining it's true.

fruits give off an allergen called "kooza" that a certain percentage of the population are receptive to. that is whey they should eat fish or have an alternate b-12 source.

I wonder if the results would be the same with organic, bio-dynamic, or other growing methods which focus on soil health rather than conventional agricultural methods.

Also, this could be just as much an indication of the trend (decline) in human immune system health, than as it appears a simple (troubling) reaction to fruits and vegetables.

There's probably something more complex at work here.

There is definitely a bigger picture to this, I wish one would get the blimming full info when tests like this are carried out and publicised.

Totally!

Yes, without more information about exactly how the tests are carried out, it's impossible to know the whole story here. As usual, the public gets the version and conclusions that are intended to be communicated. I think the best we can do is ask a bunch of probing questions and be suspicious in general of this sort of thing. I certainly won't be changing anything I do based on this. I hope the general public doesn't somehow conclude to reduce fruit and vegetable consumption to avoid allergy. (lol...some will !!)

definitely tele, there's science, and the then there's the reporting of findings done through the filter of the who, what, where, why and how...and they're different entities. always best to continue the questioning, i totally agree.

Don't they always seem to prove exactly what the study was designed to prove? Very little pure science going on. I mean science for the sack of discovery...with no interested party to fund and shape the question or research method.

Everything is driven by the conclusion the study's sponsor is intent on drawing. Look at research universities and the grant money from interested corporations. hmmmmmm...... *gun to head*....we're screwed! : )

Better to experiment on ourselves and share with like minded folks.

Many of the scientists I work with do different experiments because they are interested in the topic. It depends on the country, the university, and grants. Lots of research is done for corporations, but tons is done just out of curiosity.

Encouraging! Any idea which countries do the most "pure" research? Just curious...no real agenda here. Thanks.

I think there is lots of "fun" research done in the Nordic countries, but I'm just biased because I live in one. Much of it is done in the area of helping developing countries in ways that "think outside the box."

I think this whole fruit thing has to do with leaky gut...intestinal linings that are damaged, so larger molecules get through then what the body would normally handle and the body treats them like an invader and produces a reaction. '

Could also have something to do with the hygiene hypothesis. Too clean of an environment = immune system not attuned properly and overreacts to inappropriate things.
