Give it to me Raw

Over the last few months I have witnessed durianrider attempt to ridicule, Brian Clement, Gabriel Cousins, Robert Young, David Wolfe, Edward Howell to name but a few. These people alone have around 150 years of experience and research in food nutrition. He sometimes makes the most outrageous remarks and fails to deliver any supporting data time and time again. When challenged, he usually responds with some flippant remark or more often fails to respond at all. My favourite Durianrider quotes are the recent ones;

'i do a bit of shopping for my grandma. i brought around some cert organic gala apples. she told me they are too hard on her body and she only eats golden delicious. grandma told me this whilst eating a msg soaked bbq chip..lol!

i always have a giggle when crew diss fruit and they are eating cancer fodder.

i used to get frustrated about it, but ive learnt that some crew are genetically damaged mentally and cant uptake basic human physiology info. being raw has really taught me what acceptance and tolerance really is

so im gonna add acceptance and tolerance to the 811 lifestyle as key factors to thriving in this cooked world'.

And the classic reply when asked to justify why humans need to train to run 26 miles;

'hey, you never know when a tsunami is coming! better to be in shape than not be in shape dont you reckon?'

What's your favourite Durianrider quote?

So if you are new to Raw food please beware Durianrider has only one message- 811 is the only dietary option. Most experienced Raw foodists disagree with this and unlike Durianrider are prepared to back their statements up.

I know, I know. My Vine Deloria influence is coming through a tad too often, I will admit ;-)

Ian
Fantastic idea!! Deloria has inspired me more than any other writer (though I disagree with him politically on so many issues).

I think I appreciated his approach because it was so "out there". A true intellectual and thinker, sadly no longer with us.

Ian
Maybe he gets asked all the time where to get that. At least here they just got them, last year I asked for them in the only place they would have them and had I asked for blue martians, I'd have gotten the same reaction.
there like no... stay away from the fruit... lol cause they know how good it is coming off that tree!! stick with the dried.. version
DR doesn't ridicule those folk, he speaks truth about them, he knows what they really eat. he embraces DG because of the beauty, perfection, and simplicity of 811. DG supplies all this information FREE on his website because he believes its RIGHT for people to be healthy and fit, free of charge. what happens when you go to DW's site looking for info? this:

"1-Year Membership ($324.00)
Get all the benefits of joining for a year. You save over $240 dollars. We will bill you $324 annually. This breaks down to just $27/month compared to the monthly $47/month. Your membership grants you access to powerful Super Food Seminars, Video Presentations, Interviews with Famous Raw Food Authors, articles, recipes and more!"

wtf?

ive listened to DW's old cds, he used to say things like 'there no pill or supplement as good as fresh organic spinach' and, 'theres no vitamin pill better than a fresh organic apple' now he himself is profiting on all these 'super'foods, powderized, unsustainable, supplemental junk. he has swayed from the truth he used to believe.

My favorite DurianRide quote is- all of them.
he is brilliant and probably was a poet in another lifetime. his words are beautiful, charming, and ring truth in this cooked world (and the raw world).
Maybe any warning about DR should be he is a poet that takes artistic licence to reinterpret the facts, believe his art, don't believe the facts. Be so much easier if he just left out the supposedly factual facts and stuck to his own experiences, rather than try to sound like some professor that understands the science to back up his art.
Just because David Wolfe has changed his beliefs doesn't mean we should discount anything he says now. He would still tell you that a whole-food raw diet is ideal, but that superfoods and the like just enhance it.

I would much rather follow a guru who is willing to change than believe he holds the ultimate truth, as no one who is human can possibly know absolute truths.
There is a great DW interview conducted by Drumhil on the pain page, it's fantastic...check it out guys!
Re the Constitutional Monarchy analogy
If the student that was in favor of Constitutional Monarchy said that George W Bush was the best king that the USA ever had, because they had a basic misunderstanding that since in their mind all kings are leaders and leaders are all kings (no debate about the OPINION that GWB being the best king ever or if kings are leaders or if GWB is a leader, or if GWB is a president), if the basic misunderstanding was not corrected, and the whole class went forth spouting that Bush is a king, it's done a great disservice to everyone involved. Bush is not a king, basic fact, if you correct that and the response from the student is 'there is no need to over analysis it, it is all semantics', you'd think they were being a typical know it all teenager that couldn't accept the fact they were wrong and begin to doubt how much that student could actually cope with basic comprehension, they had the language to use big words, but the basic comprehension skills seemed to be twisted to make a blue sky pink. Other students in the class paying attention would be rolling their eyes, it's not the first time this particular student gets things back to front, other students outside the class when it was related back would just think they were whining, back to front student is entitled to an opinion and shouldn't be picked on.

DR says all cabohydrates are sugars, carbohydrates and sugars are one and the same, (it's actually all sugars are carbohydrates, not all carbohydrates are sugars, basic high school chemistry, not some really obscure fact), when called on that he replies 'we can confuse ourselves with science jargon. we can analyse till paralysis.' Sure he is entitled to an opinion. Does that entitle him to spout untruths? If it is all about spreading the word on raw or 811rv, how on earth is anyone meant to be taken seriously if they get the really obvious basics like Bush is the best king of USA ever or all carbohydrates are sugars right? How about all the people that believe what is written, because it is presented with such conviction and pseudo facts, that at the next big family gathering they tell people they will get fatter eating kale than watermelon because kale has so much sugar in it? They'll get treated the same way as if they said Obama is going to be a much better king than Bush.
Opinions are opinions, every is entitled to their opinion, facts are facts, everyone is entitled to spread untrue 'facts' because it's an opnion? I've got no problem with 811rv, lovely idea, I just don't think it can work for 100% of people, but that is a problem in they mind of an 811rv fundamentalist, That's not a problem for Dr Doug, he says if you're not active, 811rv might not work for you unless you increase your activity level.
I will agree on the "opinions" part. It is interesting to note, though, that under the GWB example you gave, we would have to define and operationalize "best" in reference to the king that he has arguably become.

With the DR example, however, the carbs and sugars debate is a little more clear-cut (basic HS chemistry, as you mentioned).

So the former would be opinions based on vague and spooky definitions. The latter would be easier to test the validity of.

I think my overall point was simply to address and question the person with whom you disagree with.

Professionals communicate with questions. Amateurs communicate with statements.

We are all mature, intelligent, capable adults here. We should have the ability to researching, experimenting, learning, trying, listening, and forming our own educated opinions about what works for us! No one can “force” or “inflict” their opinions on us….new our not. We are responsible for our own choices. Personally my journey with raw has taken many different forms and all different directions based on my research and experiences. I began with Halleluiah Acres philosophy on one cooked vegan meal a day, then I went to gourmet raw, I eventually juice feasted, and then as it turned out, I gravitated to 811 before I even knew what 811 was! My body took me there~not a book or a thread.
I am very impressed with people like DR who have very strong convictions and stand up for what they believe in. Good for him for being strong and assertive! We choose to take it or leave it or have our curiosity spiked to do more research!
Our thoughts and ideas go through a personal filter. No one person holds the Truth, it's a process of discovery. Durianrider is extremely opinionated and has his idea of the truth, which does not apply to everyone. My guess, from reading his comments, is that Durianrider is a very angry boy/man, who wasn't heard enough, or listened to when he was a child and teenager... now he feels the need to tell everyone he's "right"... he feels the need to be heard, and in the process he doesn't listen. We all need to find our own truth and realize that it is ours, and perhaps it is shared, but it is not up to us to judge or condemn others for how they choose to live.
