Give it to me Raw

I have low digestive enzymes and I was wondering what a good digestive enzyme supplement would be to take. Also should I take it before eating or right after?
Right now I take Digest Gold by Enzymedica but I was wondering if there are any other better ones out there.

How do you know you have low digestive enzymes?

Perhaps try eating foods for a week that aren't so hard to digest (fruit and leafy veg) and see how you feel.

Just a thought if you don't want to take pills everytime you eat.

I agree, maybe he might accidentally eat some bad food and it might be emergency

Gabriel Cousens takes 10 enzymes per meal, David Wolfe passes them around at his retreats.

I agree.

The ones you are taking are good. I'd stick with those for awhile until your digestion improves. I take the same ones, actually weaker, just Digest instead of the Gold version.

Some people like myself need these things in the beginning. Even tender leafy greens are too hard on my colon without them. They help tremendously reducing the pain, and increasing what I absorb.

There are probably better brands out there, but those are from a well known company that specializes in enzymes so they will work just fine.

Kas! i hear ya loud and clear...i still have issue with digesting leafy greens etc(hence all the green juicing)...and the uc seems to be lingering...im actually having a vega test this week,it tests everything....perhaps i have a microb in the colon,it so happens to access enzyme levels in the body too...

i feel best eating raw foods, yet some of those foods(leafy greens) and toms etc, move through the colon so fast,it causes much pain....

4 years all fabulous and healed on raw...then went to thailand(got sick there for couple days~by myself)didnt tell any of the guys i knew over there, just went on as if everything was normal..thats what i get washing my salad greens in the local ocean water i guess...since then my colitis flared up,doesnt help that i decided to eat raw chillies etc,the last 2 years have been a roller coaster with my health,up and down blah blah blah..

so i have caved and decided to see a naturopath this week,as i am feeling kinda desperate...and want to enjoy all my raw foods without the pain and everything else that comes along with that...

sorry didnt mean to take over the thread with my stuff :)

RGG! sorry I never asked you your name all this time lol.

Sorry things have taken a weird turn for you on that road to health. I'm too strugglin, mainly with energy levels. Already been to a naturopath, acupunture.. shiatsu massage (k that one was worth it ;)

I'm starting to believe some other raw leaders that too much fruit is my problem. Just made a blog about it!

All I know is that there is more than one way for us to heal this pesky colitis once and for all and we're gonna find it. I bet fasting would help tremendously but who am I kidding? I like food too much lol. We should share ideas, but will probably just confuse each other more. I'm gonna try a lower glycemic diet, with green juices and blended salads, maybe some nut milks. It's all new to me, I'm so used to high fruit.

Hope you get better fast! race ya?

Kas,call me Neet,all my mates do ;)

i know what you're saying...i tried lowering my fruit intake, and having more salads, but it made me feel crappy, low energy/weak feeling, and it really irritated my uc,to have more greens going through with fibre intact....

soft fruits keep me going...green juices and wg juices ya know...and as much sleep as possible is so important..

i have done short fasts,it helps with the energy levels and totally rests the digestion and colon for a couple days...

absolutely share idea...i will let you know how the vega test goes, and if anything shows up in the way of parasites etc....im keeping positive about it..and it would be so awesome to be able to digest raw fats easier...

im so strict with food combining correctly, not overeating, not eating when not hungry, not drinking with meals..all o that ya know...

race ya,yup theres our competitive streak lol xo

I would recomend virgin coconut oil, ancient himylaya sea salt, and reishi mushroom which increases the bodys lifeforce. oh yeah then theres pineapple and papaya, and kombucha

I recently tried this synthesised tinture from a lab, which from a radioscope the mineral content from saturns ring was determined. the crazy thing about this dust they made is when water is added it creates the aminos!!! kindof givesa bigger picture of how weve evolved to our planet and other vbrational planets. even deeper still the planets which all consist of different minerals all vibrate at the perfect tone of our audible musical scale and correlate to our earthly existance. so its weeird to think music is merely a resonation. sort of like when a wine glass is struck to create a tone and the same note is sung the glass shatters

Isnt it harder to eat raw foods, than cooked ones? because of the higher catalyst of digestive ensymes needed to aassimilate the energy.

heres the ingrediants from micheals:
Proprietary Blend ... 401 mg*

Pancreatin, Papain (from Papaya), Anise Seed (Pimpinella anisum), Fennel Seed (Foeniculum vulgare), Rutin, Bromelain (from Pineapple), Trypsin, Amylase, Lipase, L-Chymotrypsin

* Daily Value not established.

OTHER INGREDIENTS: Gelatin, Magnesium Stearate and Stearic Acid.

don't eat the capsule if it contains gelatin, that is made from animal bones.Empty the powder out the cap if you're vegetarian/vegan

my extremely humble $0.02.

low enzymes suggests pancreas issue. pancreas issue is usually started by sluggished/clogged gall bladder and/or liver.

if you look at a pic of that side of the body - the gall bladder and pancreas empty out into common ducts. if you have biliary blockage - say from gallstones - the stones can partially block the pancreatic ducts or even completely obstruct them (pancreatitis, etc.). the result is low or poor quality enzymes - etc.

the reason i bring up gallstones is that raw foodies tend to have them because of fthe rapid weight loss that usually occurs when most first get on the regimen. the liver is forced to process more fat than the gall bladder can eliminate - so you get buildup in the gall bladder. this is the real reason you read that many raw foodies have problems with digestion. raw foods are much harder to digest than cooked - so enzymatic deficiency hurts us more.

that said, the enzyme tabs are a short term solution and a very western-medicine way of looking at the problem (cure the symptom - damn the cause). perhaps take a look at checking out the gallbladder. I don't advocate removal - but there are things you can do to naturally dissolve those stones and get much improved digestion again. turmeric, peppermint, lecithin, are just a few of the solutions readily available.

good luck. obviously, i'm not a doctor or a medical professional so this isn't medical advice and wouldn't want you to take it as such. but it's food for thought.

A food log is a great idea! I hope that you can isolate the cause. They didn't hurt or itch or anything like that, but they didn't look right. At first I thought it was skin cancer or something! I looked up petechiae as Eric recommended in the co...

Yes- they're called petechiae and I've always heard that they are liver-related. They can also be due to anemia and low platelet count. If you also bruise easily, that might be the likely cause. I get them too and they come and go.

Pink Lady Apple, I used to get those. I know exactly what they look like - they are tiny, they can vary in size, they are circular, flat, and very red. They do look like blood blisters, but flat! I stop getting them after I did an extended water...
