Give it to me Raw

Lindsey Smith

Did your spirituality change/transition after becoming raw?

I am wondering what religion/spiritual path everyone believes/follows. Were you raised this way and maintained your belief even after transitioning to raw foods or did you change your spiritual path/belief system after becoming raw. I am asking because I did observe from reading some forums/profiles it appears (and I may be wrong) that most raw foodist do not follow any organized religions and follow their own spiritual path. Just curious how raw food effected your spiritual life if at all? Thankyou.

Not that attribute any of my changes to being raw, per se, but the more I learn about health, natural living, etc. the more I'm evolving to a very simplistic way of life.

Since becoming more "aware", I've make the following changes in my life:

- adopted a minimalist life
- gravitating more towards the Zen Buddhist philosophy (this includes being more mindful, meditating, learning to "let go", etc.)
- a continuation of my last point, I've gone from being a lover of violent video games, violent movies, death metal music and cursing like a trucker, to someone who enjoys peace and a positive environment.
- I no longer listen to the news or gossip radio programs
- I no longer have cable TV (over 10 months now).
- I donate food every time I get groceries.
- We have been fosters for our local humane society
- I purchase mostly organic food and now organic clothing
- I try to reduce my ecological footprint (and now wash clothes by hand, line dry clothes, etc.)

I'm sure there are other changes, but those are the most significant changes.

This is a huge contrast to what I was like a year ago and I'm happy to be making more improvements each day.

That is such a beautiful story Zen! I really liked heavy metal in the late 80's too. Now I can't listen to that- Also haven't watched regular tv for a couple years.

That is such a great idea for people to remember- to help as being fosters for animals when they can..=)

Ya I would say I agree, I think getting a daily practice can go a long way. This is definetely something to rejoice in. A lot can happen in a year's time when change really touches your heart =D

I was into raw for pretty solely health reasons, and though I had been somewhat raw (50-70%) for a time, I went 100% raw for two months overnight. I would say that its affect on me spiritually was more impressive to me then physically. I can remember walking out down a trail and just feeling as though I was a part of nature and when a person walked by, I thought some alien intruder was entering. It was startlingly odd for me to feel closer to non-human nature then to non-natural humans. That feeling of "intuneness" and this real feeling of awareness and connection to the higher spiritual realities is what really sold me on raw. Of course, I wasn't really doing it perfectly right, so I wouldn't get sold on it for the physical reasons until later when I finally got it figured out in that regard.

I come from a very religious background. I was employed as a Bible Instructor and was at one point set up to be an assistant pastor. (in Florida BTW). I had come to be at growing odds with the institution for some time because I perceived that while it made a lot of claims, those claims weren't a part of the practice. Pride and ego were more the driving force then genuine love, and if you didn't play along with the system, you'd have to constantly deal with heck. I didn't mind it though so much, because I had studied the Bible enough that I could quote verses to expose the hypocrisy and defend my actions. It came to the point, however, where I was not even allowed to follow the teachings of the Bible and I got fired. It was a relief.

I believe there is truth in every religion and in every person and I seek to embrace them all. As Yogananda said, "There are many paths to the top, but from the top the view is the same". I believe if you got all the founders of various religions together in the same room, they would more or less agree. The problem is the followers who don't understand their own religion. I actually am not opposed to organized religion, I just have yet to find one that embraces all truth. They all seem to have their little pet truth that they are stuck on and won't consider any other true because they are so set on correcting everyone else and trumpeting their own truth.

I feel raw has made me more conscious, and because I have been more conscious, I eat more raw. The two kind of come together and enforce each other. I feel equally comfortable in a Baptist church as a Buddhist temple as a Hindu ashram as a Native American sweet lodge. I focus on the truth in everything and love everyone for it.

I go to Ramtha's school of enlightenment. and I practice daily, telepathy and sending receiving, also remote viewing. Reading cards ( whats on the back of them without seeing them)..also so many new excersises.

I was raised Catholic and my grandpa was a United Church of Christ minister. All that was nothing ever to me

great topic! Since I have been raw I find myself wanting to meditate and do yoga, my desire to do it is a lot stronger than when I wasn't raw and I feel more spiritual, less interested in shopping, feel less attachment to things, and generally feel more at peace! : )

Raw food didn't make a change in my beliefs- I was already on an evolving spiritual path before that.
The thing that made the biggest difference for me was studying medical qigong and being exposed to Daoist philosophy. It really clicked for me.
I'm not at all religious now (and I don't feel a need for organized religion in my life). I was raised born-again Christian, as well as Jewish (I know- weird combo, LOL!) and I still believe in god. In fact, I have a whole lot more trust in god now and I'm so much more at peace with my place in the universe.
I've also had such healing experiences that I never experienced with my old belief system. To me, that's the measure by which we should judge our beliefs. Do they really bring us peace and make us happy? Do they really provide us with the tools to evolve and grow?

It's interesting that you asked this.
I went raw because of health issues (although I've been a veggie for a long time).

During this transition I happened to be researching a lot about governments, hidden histories, conspiracies and religions.
What I found opened my eyes a lot and made me ask myself questions that were hard to answer.

Before i was raw and researched, I followed a very atheist kind of belief. I was comfortable in that zone until events happened in my life that made me put myself under a microscope.

Now my outlook on life is WAAAAAY more spiritual. The bible, quran, tora ect... all seem to have this divine message. However they all in my opinion have this dogmatic prejudice. So I took the valued messages and my own experience and made my own belief. What I think is heavily based on a energy chi ideas linked with multiple dimentions. That is soooo interesting that you brought this up. I don't know if I would have found a link between the two otherwise.

Great post!

I never, ever expected this way of eating to change anything other than my physical/mental-chemical health, but much to my shock, I find that as I continue in this way of eating, I am finding happiness a lot easier to come by. I am happy MOST of the time. Not manic (which is my usual definition of happy. . .all amped up running around screaming WHEEEEEE!), but just happy, glowing. I've been kind without effort to both myself and others. I'm thinking this stems from the feeling of being "nurtured" and cared for. I haven't felt much of that in my life. My heart opens more every day and while I'm not associated with any defined religion or philosophy, I feel closer to my creator/life force energy/source. . . and shockingly, my fellow man. :)

Maybe the truth is that your Consciousness was rising you knowingly / unknowingly gravitated towards Raw :)

Mind, Body, Spirit - Typically move together.. whether you like it or not.

Raw or originally Yogic Diet is not new :D.

So please remember, Raw is not the end all, be all. Most enlightened masters eat Satvic food (typically cooked).

You could be eating raw but still be Rajsic & Tamsic energies

PS: The call of the higher self draws in all the things in your life to take you where you need to go.

PPS: There are people who will deny it though... So Raw or No Raw.. They wont let it rise.
