I have a large commercial dehydrator- the smaller one actually. I am a little guilty about how much energy it uses but I am not using it just for myself so I feel like it is my hobby splurge because I don't do a lot else. I have used about 1 tank of gas a month for the past 6 months! Partly because I stay home and play with my dehydrator and because I moved to a small town where everything is closeby! I was filling my car up almost everyday when I lived in Atlanta- so this is a huge difference.
Anyway- I got an email from the company that includes a coupon that can be used toward the same one I got. It has worked really well and has a glass door and metal construction. The racks are removeable so you can practice other artistic displays or creations with it.

Just use a 60 watt lightbulb in your oven...
I guess you're upset huh? Take a deep breath, if excalibur is as you say and good4u is as good as you say (I've never heard of them before right now) it will show its face in time.
I don't really dehydrate anything anymore, but if I do ever expand (I have a 9 tray excal) I'll check good 4u out.
Thanks for the information.
Peace

You think you could use one of those Betty Crocker ovens they sell for kids? Those things were pretty bad-ass. I always wanted one, but since they were marketed to girls, I never told my parents to get me one for Christmas.

Bryan, thank you for the information. I'm sorry that the Excalibur people upset you so much. Maybe as Jason said try to relax and I say just have a nice green juice and one of your wonderful desserts and let it roll off your back.
Truth always wins out Bryan. If companies are unethical it eventually comes to the surface. Don't let it come to your surface, you are a beautiful soul.

Ok thank you everyone I was really surprise and I was having such a wonderful time at RAW SPIRIT FEST I can't believe Ex-calibur did that but I think they are showing their true colors as we speak as a result. Now there are people going around e-mailing everyone that Good4U Dehydrators are made of PVC and that it does not dehydrate evenly which is more lies! The fact is it is made of ABS Plastic which is superior to polycarbonate which Ex-calibur uses. ABS is stronger and won't break, I can't tell you how many times the Ex-calibur would literally crack and break in half when transporting, their design is cheap, thin and filmsy also I never liked their fake door with no hinges! Dude it is like $.50 to add hinges to a fake door! But they won't even do that! So you have to remove this fake door which releases all the "heat" just so you can look at your food, or they could have made a see through fake door, but nope they have not improved or tried to innovate or change their bad design for years now they are trying really mean evil tactics as soon as a better product, better price, better design comes out. Most companies in America innovate, improve, etc. that is what makes America great but now they are resorting to threats, being a bully, creating rumors and it is so wrong and they are revealing what they are really about!
Again most companies try to step it up, improve or innovate their products when a better one comes out but not Ex-calibur they resort to low tatics! They think they OWN the "RAW COMMUNITY" they do not and they are super fake...
Good4U Dehydrators is better in price, the motor is MUCH quieter, more efficient, the design is much more sturdy I like how the button lights up, it dehyrates better, that you can see your food through the new see through tray design and no need for any fake door, everything about Good4U is much better than Ex-calibur.
I will try to breathe, be calm, mediate, do more Yoga, drink a green smoothie thanks! But I do want the RAW COMMUNITY to know what is going on....
Also I don't dehydrate that much either but we all do from time to time, it is fun, some recipes call for it, and it is a fun way to "heat" up our raw food when it gets cold while keeping it raw!
Thanks Jason and Pink Apple Lady for reminding me to be calm and loving....:D
RAW Hugs,
Bryan Au

Good4U Dehydrator comes with 10 year warranty, teflex sheets, dehydrated recipe book and this cool new nano technology towels(I didn't expect to get that!), very cool, if you go to my page I have photos and you can see how you can see your food, with Excalibur they have this fake flimsy door that is dark and you can't see your food so you have to take it off and all the "heat" that was built up goes out and so you are wasting energy and time, with Good4U the trays and open design was to make more efficient airflow and dehydration nice new genius pretty design, it is also more compact too. Also in the past when I tried to transport my Ex-calibur it would break because their design and walls were so thin and flimsy! Notice Good4U Dehydrator has a box or honey comb like design on the side? This makes it MUCH stronger, also other things I liked was the motor is much quieter, and they have a nice button that lights up. The smiling face is really cheerful too they put a lot of thought into it and I really appreciate that, and the price? NICE! Only $150 on my website for 10 tray, I can get you 6 tray for $135....

I kept going back and forth between Excaliber and Good 4U and decided to take my chances with the latter. I cant wait to try it..10 trays whoohoo! Ill post a comment on this discussion after Ive tried it out and let people know what I think about it. I just couldnt bring myself to spend 250 dollars(shipping included) on a dehydrator when I saw an alternative that was so similar. Im stoked!!

Nice Sara good choice! I really like mine a lot, I love being able to see the food and not having that fake flimsy "door" it is not even a "door" because doors have hinges! For so many years Ex-calibur I feel has been doing us a dis-service by not innovating or changing their designs, over charging us, having a inferior product, that breaks very easily, not lowering their price, improving their design, and now being really evil and mean at RAW SPIRIT FEST! I think it is all the beef jerky they are eating maybe! I think we should send a message to Ex-calibur to stop ripping us off and step up their design, lower their price, be nicer, etc...

I'm pretty concerned about the plastic too. If it's made with plastic then I'd be a little leery for the reasons Jeff said. I'm not all that fancy and I don't mind the flaws of Excalibur, besides it's a pretty black color in my kitchen. lol Good4U does seem to be made of plastic as least it looks like that in bryan's picture. is it made with plastic, bryan, or something else?

I LOVE MY EXCALIBUR DEHYDRATOR!
IT'S THE BEST ONE E V E R!!!!
Brian - it seems to me you are into all this because of your own selling & marketing & wheeling & dealing issues... and you are changing from selling one product to another - because of $$$$...
So I doubt your claims about the poor excalibur quality have too much of credibility to it... so far it's the best one there is!!!
Please, do make your claims sound more professional and acceptable for a savvy consumer - do present facts...... not just... your own emotional outcries...
ABS plastic is the same nasty plastic used for draining sewage... do not tell me ABS is a non-toxic plastic!
The more you're trying to destroy Excalibur in the manner you do above ... the more I will be liking it and standing by it...!

I hope you've had a chance to calm down, Bryan!
You've gone on at some length about the Good4U dehydrators on this thread, and if I was being cynical I would look at the fact that you've repeated several of the things in your initial post and think how much it reminded me of an advertisement and then wonder if that was unconnected with the fact that you're selling Good4U dehydrators through your own site. I'm not saying that you ARE doing it for that reason but as someone from the UK (where you're not allowed to say anything derogatory about the competition) that's how it comes across, and I hope that's not "the truth of what is happening"...
If Excalibur have behaved as you say then that is pretty appalling, but I already have one of their dehydrators which continues to give excellent service, and until it packs up I'll carry on using it. I'll try to make a mental note, though, to check out the Good4U when that time comes, although the fact that it's plastic - even ABS plastic - doesn't immediately win me over, as I don't see in what ways - for making a dehydrator at least - it's better than the polycarbonate used for the Excalibur.

I agree with you Andrew. Polycarbone is not the ideal plastic either. But it is passable if and when it's xenoestrgen free. It is not ideal, though... but at least it has been food grade approved... and the polycarbone in Excalibur does not come in direct contact with food.
The ABS plastics did not even come close to being food-grade approved... and ABS falls into the catogery of either melamine or pvc plastics - considered highly toxic whether heated or not. Just go to Home Depot store and ask any Joe Doe in the plumbing department selling the ABS pipes if they would use the plastic to prepare food...even the fast-food-eating-pop-drinking Joe Doe would tell you NO.
I had this experience when I was trying to buy the ABS plastic to make molds for my 100% organic and home made olive oil soap and that's not even for food!!!
I was advised against the ABS plastic...and I am very glad about it... I am using glass & wood molds only...
The only passable plastics (although not ideal) for food are the ones with the recycling numbers 1,2,4, 5. Polypropelyns and co-polyesters.
Ideal is glass, wood .... or nothing...

Yep, love the Bad4U too!
Glad to see that there are others who saw through this.
If this thread had been simply about the ways in which the Good4U was better than the Excalibur, even if it didn't mention the ways in which the Excalibur might be better, I wouldn't have had a problem with it.
If it had been an 'exposé' of alleged underhand tactics, which may or may not have been used by Excalibur, but without plugging a different manufacturer I wouldn't have hada problem with that either.
And if Bryan had been open about the fact that he was selling the Good4U dehydrator through his website from the beginning so that people could form their own objective opinion, that would have been fine.
But unfortunately, it was none of those, and so that's why I was suspicious about Bryan's motives. I have no problem with promoting one's business on here but not if it's done in an underhand way.

Well I made the decision to purchase this dehydrator from a different website before reading this post, so my decision was completely independent. I just received a phone call telling me I have a $52 shipping charge added to my order. This is understandable because Im in Hawaii. Im going to call back and either confirm the order or cancel it shortly. I didnt give much thought to the materials used in either the Excalibur or the Good 4U. Im going to do some quick research and then make my final decision. If I do try out the Good 4 U, I will give an unbiased opinion of its performance.

ABS Home - Overview of ABS - ABS Suppliers - ABS Product List
Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) - This material is a terpolymer of acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene. Usual compositions are about half styrene with the balance divided between butadiene and acrylonitrile. Considerable variation is, of course, possible resulting in many different grades of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene with a wide range of features and applications. In addition, many blends with other materials such as polyvinylchloride (PVC), polycarbonates and polysulfones have been developed. Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene materials can be processed by any of the standard thermoplastic processing methods.

Water rich foods are much better anyway. Dehydrated absorbs water from your body and causes you to be dehydrated. If you drink water with the dehydrated foods it dilutes the digestive juices causing the food to not be proper;y absorbed. Dehydrated is basically gourmet and unhealthy.

Permalink Reply by Cheery Cherry Kiss 16 hours ago
Good decision, Sara... but you do not have to give up on the dehydrators. I know it's much better to eat ripe and fresh fruits and veggies - but sometimes it's better to have some dehydrated food, than nothing, or some cooked or junk food...
I am actually looking for wooden & glass dehydrators.. they do exist...they are more costly... but our health is worth it.

Well, I just had to cut and paste this info about the ABS plastic from the link I posted above ... just to make this visible for everyone:
Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS) is used as a hard plastic in many applications like pipes, car bumpers and toys (hard building blocks). ABS uses a number of hazardous chemicals. These include butadiene and styrene (see above) and acrylonitrile. Acrylonitrile is highly toxic and readily absorbed by humans by inhalation and directly through the skin. Both the liquid and its vapor are highly toxic. Acrylonitrile is classified as a probable human carcinogen as are styrene and butadiene.

I bought a water distiller years ago because I read about a lot of health conscious people drinking distilled water, I didn't do a lot of re-search before I bought mine. To be honest I really didn't like the water. It didn't feel natural and kinda weird.
Then I read some negative stuff on-line about it, it being too non structured and aggressive and that it could pull minerals out of your body and all that. Sorry not very scientific here but I can't remember the exact wording. But all of what I read was kind of resonating with me and also the fact that I had to operate another electrical appliance in my kitchen for hours really turned me off it. I stopped using it and got a reverse osmosis filter attached to my tap instead, I'm really happy with this and even though mine is now quiet an old model and there are even better ones on the market that will not only purify but also re-structure and alkalize your water, I still really like the water we drink.

Deleted? I hope not. No-one's been particularly rude or offensive. I suspect that there is one person who might not think so, but they have every right and opportunity to come here and defend what he posted, and I hope not only that they are given the chance to do so, but that they actually do.
If there is a good argument as to why there was so much blatant plugging of one dehydrator and dissing of the other, or evidence of these underhand tactics by Excalibur (such as a testimony from one of the exhibitors about the threatening behaviour) I'll quite happily retract my suggestion that it was an outright advertisement.
In the meantime I will stick by what I said as I object to what appears to be someone promoting their own self-interests under the guise of a warning which is supposedly in the interests of the raw community.

Excalibur Represented the United States as a Member of the CAFTA-DR Business Development Mission
How cool is that?

Every year Excalibur sets aside a portion of our profits to fund our Global Outreach Program, by purchasing an Excalibur Dehydrator you are helping to support programs like these.
We are not about the "all might dollar" but education, making the world better to live in. I feel most of the time Bryan is advertising what he sells & is being disrespectful in his underhanded tactics & comments. Initially he asked us to fund his book by asking for $10,000.00 up front "donation". We declined but did give him many units for free I might add for the book itself. I feel he is mad in a way @ us for the reason of Excalibur not giving him money for his book printing.
I feel that is where all the "bad press" about Excalibur is coming from.
We are all for fair competitions as there are many dehydrators on the market. Feel free to contact anyone of our reps to help in clarifying any issues you might have. We are there to help. How many people can say they would take their time out to really "talk" with the customers? As a Chef here I am constantly talking with customers to insure they are dehydrating properly. We have issues a statement about the Good4U dehydrator if you would like to see out stand on that.
