I'm wondering how many people here are into composting their kitchen scraps. It seems that more and more people I know are composting, but some still don't seem to understand why they should do it, how to do it, or what to put into the compost. A lot of people think you have to own a special composting container and you have to add ripped up newspaper, and you have to turn it every day, and you have to mist it, and you have to...
All you really need is a shovel and a place to dig.
Here, the kitchen scraps get burried once a week. I dig a pit, toss them in, and cover them up. Simple and easy. The worms love the kitchen scraps. The soil has turned from sandy and dry to moist and rich... and perfect for growing stuff.
It's one more way you can lead a more sustainable life.
I CANT compost anything! Ive TRIED. I have poultry that LOVES the table scraps from my kitchen (eg 60+ chickens, 8 turkeys, 6 ducks and 1 guinea), Even the cat gets in on the scrapin's once in a while. 'Bout the only thing they leave behind is the raw onion skins. TEENAGED CHICKENS IN THE BROODER AREA

GEESE I HAD TO SELL LAST FALL (I miss them...but my daughter doesnt...they'd decided she was a threat to their quiet mornings each morning when she would go out to feed her horses and they would chase her and pinch her...so they had to go - lol)
guess It's still composting in a way lol, same problem with my dogs, soon as I put the stuff out in the back yard thay eat up the choiciest bits, but I turn their poo into compost too:) ahhhh the circle of life, ain't it grand?!>
hot composting is the way to go.... take all of your compostables.. and put them in your extra vitamix container (dont use your food container).. blend them up with some water until it gets hot.. and pour them directly onto your garden
Haha PLA - I still love eggs - especially more than tongue. I said when I saw that tongue when I was little "what if it could taste you back?"
The shell is the big plus with eggs. The bloom and the shell make the egg almost impenetrable to anything…
