I hate beating up on Christmas or the spirit of giving, the holiday season etc because in theory it is a positive thing. I don't think 99% of the people ot there think they are worshipping Satan by celebrating Christmas. So I'd hate this to end up being a kind of hate mongering scenario. I have seen that in some religions which promote hating people who aren't their religion.

If you are enlightened the spirit of giving and loving should be an everyday sort of thing. I have seen people rationalize all kinds of horrible behavior on a daily basis and then think they were ok because they went to church or because they would be nice for a few seconds at some other time or reason. I think the real evil lies in people who can't communicate or experience for that matter appreciating other people or hoping the best for them. We are all in this together. There could really be a serious conflict in our future.

I never realized until recently how hard it is for people to care about each other.

Great post, AwesomeUniverse (which is a very appropriate screen name for this discussion by the way).

The spirit of giving SHOULD be every day and not expecting reciprocation and it doesn't have to be in a material way.

Many have bemoaned that certain holidays promote greed and materialism and really, we should be volunteering and giving of our time whenever it makes sense to do so.

And, like you mentioned, our personalities and character should be refined to a point that it, too, is a daily experience and not just certain days or times.

This is the primary reason I don't observe any holidays anymore and find ways to help in ways that count whenever I can.

Thank you Michelle! Yes volunteering is a great thing to do. recently I was in a situation where some guys who were raw vegan were being abusive to me because Im not young enough or skinny enough to be part of the club. I mentioned to the "director" that people who have an issue with me have bad relationships with their mothers because I come across as a caring person. So "the director" said well you need to look at why you are being like that- like I was getting some kind of gratification from being a nice person. That is not it at all.

I think it should be natural to be a nice person. But given the circumstances again I would not be nice about being treated in an abusive way. I think there are people out there who miss the point completely. I hate to see it in new age\raw vegan circles but it just shows how far removed people are from even knowing what it is to be a decent person.

Wow. That is sad, indeed. I'm sorry you went through that.

For whatever it's worth, I've read that Hitler wanted to put his soldiers on Dr. Max Gerson's low-fat vegan diet to make them lean and mean, so not everyone who is vegan is doing it for ethical or kind reasons.

This type of behavior HAS to be affecting their health. Love is not only the strongest force in the universe, but it is also the most healing....those who can't find it in their hearts usually end up suffering in their health.

Larabars are 100% raw (well, most of them) and they're really good. Think Organic bars are raw and organic. You'll get twice the Larabar for less money, but they're both really good.

Please share your easy desserts. I've finally gone 100% raw, but I'm having a hard time staying way from candy... (I haven't caved yet) I'm looking for desserts that don't need nuts as I'd like to eat them after dinner. Thanks!
