Yes, it is a form of idolatry.

Dec 25 was the day of the Roman Saturnalia the Rebirth of the Sun---Emperor Constantine made it the birth of the "son of God"

The Yule log and evergreen trees were symbols of everlastingness--the rebirth of the sun had the same theme. Don't know where they flying reindeer came in. Santa, I believe was started by Pepsi?

The early pilgrims didn't celebrate X-mas, in fact, it was outlawed in the U.S. back in the day....No where in the Bible does it say the date of Jesus birth. The shephards were with the sheep out in the fields at night---it couldn't have been December since there's snow in Israel at that time...probably sometime in late October...

This is true... I always found it fascinating when I was little and reading my little homeschool readers about pilgrims.

"Why don't we celebrate Christmas?" asked Samuel.
"Because it is a pagan holiday," replied Father sternly.

Haha. :)

the pepsi part was really funny!! santa claus was actually a man named st nicholas. In Greek, St. Nicholas is known as Hagios Nikolaos, Bishop of Myra (in the present day Turkey) He dedicated his life to serving God and was made Bishop of Myra while still a young man. Bishop Nicholas became known throughout the land for his generosity to the those in need, his love for children, and his concern for sailors and ships.he was known as the friend to children and over the centuries, his legend has grown.the origin of the NAME santa claus probably came from amsterdam or holland and the US. adopted it.

Yes, but I think it was Pepsi that put him in a red suit. :)

At any rate, all the sugar in the soda gave him the roly poly belly. LOL
