Give it to me Raw

I just read an article online about IBM's predictions for future technology. I couldn't believe what I was reading. It basically said that Dr.'s were going to work with pharmaceutical company's to prescribe drugs based on the "possibility" of getting something in the future. They would profile your DNA and predict what you might get, and then drug you for it now. Here is the exceprt from the article . . .

IBM Reveals Five Innovations That Will Change Our Lives in the Next Five Years

ARMONK, NY – November 25, 2008 - Unveiled today, the third annual "IBM Next Five in Five" is a list of innovations that have the potential to change the way people work, live and play over the next five years:

Energy saving solar technology will be built into asphalt, paint and windows

You will have a crystal ball for your health You will talk to the Web . . . and the Web will talk back You will have your own digital shopping assistants Forgetting will become a distant memory

The Next Five in Five is based on market and societal trends expected to transform our lives, as well as emerging technologies from IBM’s Labs around the world that can make these innovations possible.

In the next five years, technology innovations will change our lives in the following ways:

You will have a crystal ball for your health What if you could foresee your health destiny and use that knowledge to modify your lifestyle? Even though we are told that things like French fries, potato chips, cheese and wine aren’t good for us, what if you could find out specifically that you are someone who could consume more of those vices without having negative impact on your health? In the next five years, your doctor will be able to provide you with a genetic map that tells you what health risks you are likely to face in your lifetime and the specific things you can do to prevent them, based on your specific DNA – all for less than $200. Ever since scientists discovered how to map the entire human genome, it has opened new doors in helping to unlock the secrets our genes hold to predicting health traits and conditions we may be predisposed to.
Doctors can use this information to recommend lifestyle changes and treatments. Pharmaceutical companies will also be able to engineer new, more effective medications that are targeted for each of us as individual patients. Genetic mapping will radically transform healthcare over the next five years and allow you to take better care of yourself.

Yeah, Ive heard about this. I work in a health food store, and a few months ago Solgar (vitamin company) supplied us with DNA tests we could give our customers. They took a swab of their mouth and sent the results into Solgar. Solgar sent the results back to us stating what vitamins they should be taking in order to help prevent this "predisposed" disease.
It was pretty interesting, but it really freaked out alot of our customers.
This was only around for a month or so before it was taken off our shelves. I think it had to do the pharmaceutical companies wanting to get in on the profit.

I do agree that it is another way to slowly lead the sheep to the slaughter, through liver failure or something pharma related. What i don't agree with is your doubt in their power to succeed in this and their codex regulations. I don't preach worry, i also don't preach empty rhetoric like "hope." Hope has been peddled a bit too much these past years by politicians for me to cling to my minds definition of it. Are you saying that if a law like codex is passed that it wont stick because of revolt due to worldwide recognition and consciousness of the benefits of health foods? Why are you so sure that this preempted war on the nonexistent disease or disorder will be stopped in it's ugly tracks?

I would love to see more solar panels - i had a solar watch in 1985 and wanted to place panels on my roof too but it was too expensive at the time, i wanted my own filtration system - again back than it was not econimical ..... i look forward to solar technology to develop!
Talking computers personal assistance, more services - this is happening already and in the sea of information we need some help.

Health - well - there is much to be done and Big Pharma will not let go easily...raw is the way, genetic screening is the way...

I would love to see more big companies really putting effort into green initiatives and invest in cleaning their toxic waste or changing production to eliminate or minimize it.

That sounds like fun.. There is a thing called double dutch where two girls hold two ropes and you have to jump them both at the same time.. maybe you could find a couple of girls to try this with you. It's pretty impressive when you see it..
