I would really like to hear from anyone who went raw to help with a weak digestion (or simply anyone with real knowledge) What way of eating has helped, if any?
Cheers and may I say it is a beautiful hot 30 degrees here in Sydney today. A great day for mangoes!
:)
How long has he been off gluten? The diet described by Dr Campbell-McBride is (I believe) very similar to the one described by Elaine Gottschall in her book 'Breaking the Vicious Cycle', which is also often recommended for autism spectrum children, as well as people with digestive disorders (Crohn's, UC, IBS, etc.). It is a grain-free diet, and many of the children (and adults!) on it go through a detox/transition period, which means they get worse before they get better, and they experience "flare-ups" on the path to health. Your son being worse since going off gluten may be an example of this; as I'm sure you already know, you really have to be 100% about something, and be very careful about ingredient lists and what he eats when away from home. From my experience in online support groups for the diet mentioned above, even the smallest slip up can set someone back a great deal.
Yes it is very hard to police. That book is based on the one you mentioned. It takes the CF/GF diet to a totally new level, one in which I am not going to take until the school holidays start. (We have 7 weeks sch hols at xmas). After awhile GF made him more constipated and wheat was the only thing to get things moving again. Autism is a rollercoaster ride thou and all the seats are different sizes
Eat mono meals of lots of bananas, blend your foods, eat a lot of soups, take Vitamineral Green and MRM Plant Based Digestive enzymes. Lots of green smoothies really helped too! Poor digestion was the reason why I went raw and all of this has helped me soo much!
Cool, thanks Alysha. I am having mono meals of mango at the moment and this seems to be helping. As does mono oranges. I will look into the digestive enzymes as well. I do enjoy blended foods for some reason
its a lovely 40C in Adelaide today Nic~~ yes i went to eating raw foods because i was so sick,my digestion was shot, every mouthful i ate,i was in terrible pain,i was a shut in virtually..:( anyway i went straight into raw,as per Alissa Cohen recipes, braggs, salt nuts seeds,a little fruit the whole shebang...anyway i felt better almost immediately, was amzing...after some time i tweaked it so there was more greens, slightly less fat,no salt,a little more fruit.....and i stayed this way of eating for 2 years, and felt incredible...then i changed to high fruit...blah blah blah....6 years later, never felt better :)
i had been eating 100% cooked, nothing i ate was living(hence my feeling of being more dead than alive, lol) and within a few weeks went 100% raw and stayed that way 100%
have done 811 twice 12 months at a time, then 811(not technically cos i had green juice too) for another 12 months to put it frankly it fcked my health right up..so thanks but narrrrrrrrrrrrrr...
My digestion is weak as well, lack of enzymes.
So I have to make a "bitter input"(herbs) to make the digestive glands work again,
Some months ago I had to break up with raw food, cause my liver did not work as it should - it stopped throwing the gall-liquid out into the digestion, and the gall-liquid got back into my body and everywhere my skin was itching (I nearly got crazy about this cause even scratching till it bleed didn´t help), my skin became dry as hell and yellowish, and my stool was very light.
I made a liver cleanse with graepfruit juice and olive oil, for 10 days (you can google it, or youtube it). And that worked very good.
Now I´m taking some bitter african drops("uzara") and amara drops to make it work, and once in two weeks acupuncture for the upper digestive glands, and I wonder when it will work again, without taking anything. But the raw food-style liver cleanse helped the best.
Bitter things make the tonus of the digestive system rise, so it works better again.
And my therapist told me to drink minimum 3 liters a day, to make my juices more liquid again, so they cannot coagulate to stones. He told me as well that raw food makes the body throw out more liquid, than eating cooked food. So my thoughts about how much liters of water i had within my raw food was wrong, I have to drink it, and not count the juice in the raw food into my intake of liquid. If the juices in your are liquid enough, the enzymes inside will work better as well, especially when its 30 degrees, you have additional loss of liquid, because of sweating, so often drinking more will solve lot of problems.
Hope you can learn from my mistakes.
Try this. I found out about it when I worked at Jubbs longevity. There is absolutely no aftertaste and a bottle lasts forever. I've been using it for years. Lucky Vitamin has amazing prices on many things too.

I like to do fasts as well and I think the power in fasting is that its a remedial action, one part of the process of purifiying. For instance if you feel you have a lot of non-virtuous residue or spiritual obstacles to remove, you generate regret...
