Cat declawing surgery ban measure is up for vote in Berkeley on Tuesday, November 10th.
You don't have to live in Berkeley to encourage a YES vote.
Contact phone numbers and email addresses are below.
Please spread this wide to get people to contact the Berkeley mayor and city council members to vote YES on outlawing cat declawing surgery in the city of Berkeley.
Let them know that Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, and the city of Los Angeles have all outlawed the surgery to declaw cats.
The declawing surgery deforms/mutilates their feet - either cutting a tendon, or cutting off what on humans would be the tops fo the fingers including where the finger nails are. Cats that are declawed are more likely to bite as that is their last defense. They are also more likely to live shorter lives, more likely to not groom themselves well - which leads to health problems, etc. Most people who get their cats declawed do so to prevent their furniture from damage. Cats can easily be trained to use a scratch pole.
Deadline:
Vote taking place Tuesday, November 10th.
Mayor and city council member contact information below.
They MUST be contacted BEFORE 3PM Tuesda, November 10th
From The Paw Project:
Berkeley is the latest city to put a declaw ban on their agenda. I believe in miracles, but unless something else wonderful happens, this is as far as we can go until a further break through. One might think that progressive Berkeley is a slam dunk to ban declawing, but unfortunately it's not.
We're gonna have to call, fax, email or attend the council meeting in person to make it happen.
A FINAL vote on the Berkeley declawing ban is currently scheduled take place Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009 7 PM
Messages of support have proven to be very helpful, they've been working very well so far, Look at the wonderful success we are having on behalf of cats and all other animals! Contact made in support of a ban on declawing need to be sent to the Berkeley Mayor and Councilmembers no later than Tuesday November 10th at 3 PM. Yes, messages can be left over the weekend. Phone calls are also effective: every call counts and legislators who are undecided are tallying votes. Please write, phone, fax, or e-mail.
All contact info is below, when leaving/writing a message.
Please call and leave the councilmembers a message Ask them to support a ban on declawing,
