Give it to me Raw

For about three months now I've been experimenting with replacing all my hygiene products with baking soda, and for the past month I've been using it exclusively. So far, noticeably, it seems to help with scarring (I had quite a bit of scarring from ripping apart mosquito bites year after year), completely eliminates odour (verified ^_^), improves skin tone, acne, "blackheads," ingrown hairs, whitens teeth (rinse twice a day for odour as well), whitened my nails, as well as keeps my hair shiny and "clean" feeling. (Grammatically inconsistent, but oh well.)

So... WTF? What's wrong with it? It's going to give me cancer, yea? I'm confused, mostly because it seems like one of those impossible do-it-alls, but is also really cheap and supposedly completely natural? WTF?

So yea, baking soda - Awesome stuff.

I was wondering that as well. Well, mostly how sustainable it is and where it actually comes from? I've been using it combined with my shampoo. Yeah, I haven't kicked the shampoo and conditioner yet. But it eliminates the film i usually leave in my hair after showering. It washes out the oil faster, so I can still take fairly short showers even after not washing my hair for a week.
I try not to use it on my teeth too often, since it's abrasive. But it's an awesome exfoliant.
And of course, I use it to clean.

Ahh.. Finn, Welcome to the unfortunately'secret' world of 'really good natural products that work REALLY well, are really cheap and why don't we all know of this?'.

Whose interest is it to promote the use of cheap, natural products that do a great job but don't make people money? Certainly not any company that makes a killing selling personal products that's for sure! You have been fortunate enough to discover this secret, now all you have to do is work with us to help make it well known and no longer a secret. yay!

I'm using the rest of my salt crystal, then I'll be moving to use baking soda, it's great!

You need to get organic baking soda. Regular baking soda has aluminum. You don't want aluminum. When you actually try organic baking soda, you'll notice the difference. It has a much finer, cleaner feel.

This is the only brand I'm aware of that's aluminum-free. You can find it at most natural food stores as well as Whole Foods. It costs over 2 bucks. Still cheap, relatively speaking, but not as cheap as the conventional stuff.

I wasn't aware of any other brands. I assume there are others, but I haven't seen them.

Do they have to list aluminum in the ingredients? Mine says only Sodium Bicarbonate.

Oooh according to Wiki some Italian is using it as a cancer treatment o.O

As far as oral ingestion goes... What's the general opinion there? As far as I can understand it promotes alkalinity and as far as I can understand alkalinity = good. So... Oui?

No, they don't have to list aluminum. None of them do. But definitely check out the non-aluminum one. I promise you'll notice a difference.

There was a thread on here a while back about that Italian guy who uses the baking soda treatment.

I do like the Violent Femmes but I think that is too pessimistic. Nihilistic hard driving folk.

I have not used the stuff for years, it gives me heart palpitations. but when I did use the stuff my 1st choice was liquid (especially the flavored ones they have like toffee) 2nd choice: white, which is more processed, but I can not even stomach ...

Soft rock is soft, not driving rock, but soft gushy love songs, romantic, smooth..stuff you are embarrassed to admit you like. Stuff that makes you imagine you are swimming with sea horses, or hanging out on a rainbow with your love.

Did you just blend banana and vanilla? I made ice cream with banana and cacao nibs... it was really good.
