Sigh. I think people are writing these under the assumption that conventional produce is "normal" produce (aka the standard of food we should be eating), when really it's organic that should be considered "normal". Do people not realize that an apple sprayed with thiabendazole, DPA and acetamiprid ISN'T normal!? And that's not even getting into the mineral compostion of the soil!!!! UGH. I get so worked up over this.
I live in a place where the produce section of the supermarket is the same size as the peanut butter section. I wish people would just care enough to educate themselves!
even if it weren't of extra health benefit which my body positively says it is; it tastes better! its better for the environment!
it's fresher! its all round better!
On a related note, I was looking through my nutriton textbook, and read a passage that said something like "Chemicals [ie. pesticides] are digested and filtered out of the body easily. They are beneficial in preventing certain diseases in plants and for helping them grow". Like W T EFFFF, this is what they're teaching kids these days?!?!?
Carnivorous Capitalism is a hoot. (If you don't pollute one's body or environment.) This is the same country that says we are number one in the world. When we are 37th in health and 50th in longevity. Pesticides are good for people. Smog is good for trees. And the doctors draining the blood out of George Washington really helped him get better. Knot. Excuse me now. I have to get back to watching Glen Beck. He is a member of the only true religion and politcal party. Extremely knotty.
they're looking at macronutrients, not micronutrients. Yes, the calories; fat, carb, and protein content may be the same, but I think it was in Michael Pollan's book "In defense of food" (which I loved and highly recommend) where I read that organic produce has a higher level of antioxidants like carotenoids and catechins, etc...because they had the stress of protecting themselves, rather than being 'protected' by pesticides. It's all a matter of what they're looking at in the study!
I will say, though, I notice a BIG difference in the taste and quality of organic produce from the supermarket, compared to the stuff I get in my organic box weekly delivery. (For anyone in the Glasgow/Edinburgh area, it's growwild.com). The supermarket stuff is bland in comparison, plus has a tendency to go mouldy a lot quicker. I think the box delivery goes with local seasonal stuff whenever possible, whereas the supermarkets probably just get whatever they can import the cheapest.
Come on woman! No time like the present! We may now have one more spot for our March 20 to May 22 internship session; this is truly a life-changing program and an amazing bargain...
Thanks Priyam! You are very kind and generous with your appreciation, and I appreciate the specificity. I agree with you completely that fasting is generally very poorly understood, mostly feared, and almost always avoided.
Though someone once su...
Hey Michele! We fast 8-10 people per year for 6 weeks and most of them have amazing experiences. Incidentally, though some people imagine there's a need to "work up" to a long fast like this, many are fasting this long for the first time; in fact,...
We dont want organic pasteurized, that is the same as conventional to us. Its been treated with something to kill it because that it what people do kill beautiful things it seems. Dead people.
Hi Jeff,
Every organism is completely self-healing. When sick or badly injured enough, every species will lie down and rest completely. Fasting itself has no curative power, but when we stop processing food (the single most energy expensive proce...
OMG
steamed? I needed a nutcracker to open them and it was really hard to get them opened. You think? My pristine lips touched something that was steamed>??
