This was a discussion I had on Facebook a little while back and decided to post it here to see what the rest of you think. I've been making smoothies in my Vitamix for my dad. I've been buying the food for him and it's all been organic. One day he went out and bought some groceries; none of it was organic. He wanted me to make him a smoothie. I didn't want any conventional produce in my Vitamix. It's been filled with 100% organic food since I bought it. My dad thought I was being ridiculous.
So what do you think? Am I? Most vegetarians/vegans don't want to use the same cutting board that meat's been on. Is this that much different?
It's not like I wasn't helping him. I've been buying food and making smoothies all the time. It was just that one night where he decided to buy some conventional produce.
I think you make absolute and total sense. I wouldn't want those toxic pesticides or GMO's coming anywhere near my blender. Any chance of cross contamination seems unacceptable to me. It also makes sense to me that he doesn't understand this. Un-pure bodies have a hard time thinking purely. Stay strong and stick to your guns on this one. You must always trust your instincts despite the opinion of others....even your father.

Yes. If you wash the produce, how much pesticide residue do you think can really be on your appliance? And you wash your appliance between uses, so it should be fine. Plus, your produce is likely "contaminated" by the slackers at Whole Foods who might've let it touch a surface that conventional produce was on. Ot they may have not washed their hands between handling conventional and organic. I should know- I worked there and I know how things really are!
Look deeper... what was the emotional undertone? even here lots of people wouldnt have worried too much about that but you´re you, and no you´re not ridiculous. Why is it so important that no toxins get into your body? do you not trust that your body could deal with them/ get them out? negative emotions can turn the most organic spring greens to lead in our stomach. how did your dad feel when you rebuffed his attempt to contribute? how does that make you feel? its not about whos right and whos wrong, i think you must be doing something right for him to want to participate, it just seems such a shame you had this misunderstanding. You can understand why your dad thought you were being ridiculous but you can also understand why you feel how you feel about this right? so talk to him ask him to tolerate your vision, and you accomodate where he is now, hes interested, thats great! encourage encourage

Amen, Loren. So do you feel the same way about blending then? The whole fiber is still there with blending so not improving on nature as much as sort of 'pre-chewing', if you will
I'm planning to start enemas too (I think when my roommate will leave next month...). Of course it's unnatural, but we have eaten unnatural for years and years and I believe it can help a lot getting out the waste.
