Give it to me Raw

Does any one know if alcoholism can be cured with raw foods?
The scentific explanation for alcoholism today is, that an alcoholics body doesn't process alcohol the way other people's bodies do, and a build up of THIQ takes place in their brains. So what i am wondering is, can the THIQ that builds up be cleaned out thru detox and the body be healed from it in ability to break alcohol down. (ie: pancrease and kidneys function properly?)
This question applies to the true alcoholic, not someone who is a heavy drinker....
So I guess what I am asking is this, Not can someone quit drinking thru raw foods but can they actually be healed from the abnormal reaction of their body.
Second part of the question is:
How many raw foodist actually drink?
Are most raw foodist opposed to drinking? Or do some drink?
What do you do? and Why?

That is a good question. I would like to see raw food and possibly holodynamics team up to help people heal themselves of diseases including being addicted to drugs and alcohol.

I think the raw recipe book raw food real world promoted drinking to a certain degree- I mean she does a lot of coctails which seem to be ripe for the addition of a "twist." I also am under the impression that restaurants that serve alcohol and raw do better than the purely raw ones. Juliano talks about doing vodka to purify his system and aludes to other things.

I think it's ok in moderation but I didn't get the alki gene.. I have seen a lot of people take drinking too far and I would like to see more young people allowed to be free and natural and not in toxic environments be it at home or at college.

In an economy like this one they say "sin stocks" are up- that people drink more, smoke more, and beat there kids more- so in that sense I would prefer if people didn't go this route as a stress related behavior.

Yes, I remember that about Sarma's book and I have seen Juliano talk about that before too.

Interesting about "sin stocks". Thats too bad. I agree with you that I would love to see people have healthier ways of coping.

That would be cool to see raw foods and holodynamics team up like that......
It would be wonderful if this lifestyle could help people in a full range of areas...
I think it does to thoes who are looking for it, but it isn't standard course of action by any means for healing of thoes addictive genes (behaviors) Although it is beneficial in thoes areas.

So true...it'd be great if raw foods and holodynamics could team up into a cohesive approach. it does make so much sense, and at some point in the recovery process, it can be seen as such. it's such a logical outgrowth of seeking honesty, open-mindedness, and willingness.

If you go on a "Master Cleanse" fast for one week it will cure the addiction to alcohol.

really?....you mean cure as in you can drink like a normal person, or cure as in get the alcohol out of your system so you aren no longer physically dependent on alcohol?

Reply to This

That would be so great if you could get an alcoholic to stop drinking in the first place- for a week..

That is the hard part. Yes it has to be a combination of approaches. I've even thought about controlled LSD treatment - but the person would have to be under care for the whole thing.

It seems like it would have to be very drastic to get someone to put the bottle down so they could do a master cleanse..

Paul- Thanks for saying that! It's so nice to hear!

I don't have any answers but I did come across this recently and thought I'd do some more research in this vein "one of these days..."

"I have never, ever seen an alcoholic who wasn't hypoglycemic. It just doesn't occur, it's the same problem." Dr. Douglas M. Baird, HSF Medical Director, author of The Blood Sugar Hotline

Alcoholics (and any addicts) have significant differences in their brains than the average person. I think finding the nutrient and neurotransmitter deficiencies are what is important and treating those, which raw food, in and of itself, doesn't do. I think a raw diet with proper supplementation could be great, though.

Most effective would be neurofeedback with Brain State Conditioning http://www.brainstatetech.com/results.htm
What this does is map out the imbalances in your brain and then mirror them back. The brain then starts to self correct. There has been tremendous success treating addictions with this. They've also done a study on prison inmates being treated with it and all of them became much less aggressive.
It's good for any kind of brain imbalance, like ADD, sleep problems, head injuries, neurosis, learning disorders, etc. Pretty much anyone can benefit.

Raw foods can help the addict be more present and help the rebuilding of his or her body. But I am not sure DNA can be changed with what one eats food wise. Addiction tends to be self-medicating or escaping something, usually feelings from trauma or something of that sort. The benefit of addiction recovery is the emotional, intellectual and spiritual growth that occurs with true recovery. Focusing on the emotional, intellectual and spiritual aspects of recovery, no matter what one believes, the benefits are enormous. The belief that all beings are connected and come from the same source, this can only help. From a more Christian perspective, the recovery allows an individual to draw closer to God. I don't know if there is a way to "cure" addiction, but I would not want to have my addictive tendencies taken away or cured, because they are part of who I am and make up my personality. I am constantly working to be closer to God and be a better person from what I learned from recovery. It's the journey that really counts, not the result.

I do agree with this RawAmy....drawing closer to God is key!
Growing emotionally, intellectually and spiritually are the cornerstones for true recovery.
I don't think that there is truly any other way out from any addiction. Not alcohol and drugs or sugar and cooked foods. At least not for me. I wish there were sometimes. I wish it was easier. But for me it is not to be. I must grow along spiritual lines in order to be relieved of my addictions.

Have to agree there, Alicia. It would be nice in some ways if the disease of addiction could just be treated on a biochemical basis. But it really has a huge spiritual and mental component as well, these facets need just as much attention as the physical. Brain chemistry, metabolization of particular enzymes...valiant attempts at getting at the core of addiction no doubt, in effect though they give a more detailed explanation of what's already known. Nothing wrong with that at all. It just doesn't address the entire picture--and addiction is a real riddler demanding the entire picture exposed in order to treat and recover from it.

Paul, are you talking about the physical nature of addiction? How and why certain people get addicted while others don't?
