Give it to me Raw

Ok So here's a little about my background:
I've known about "Raw Foods" for several years now and have half-heartedly tried it a couple times without success. But now I'm serious. I'm about 40 lbs overweight, it's possible that I have hypothyroidism, I constantly have headaches and I NEVER have any energy. I'm surprised sometimes to make it through the day.

After doing a lot of research on raw foods I've come across the 92 juice feast. I was planning on starting in Jan 1st, but everyone I've come across whose done it have all done after years being raw and having already released their excess weight.

So basically my question is. Can I start this in Jan coming not from a raw background (although I've already started to make improvements to my diet), or should I wait? If there is anyone out there who has done this from the same starting point I will I would LOVE to hear from you!

Thanks so much everyone!!

Jessyka

I would just do it! I did a 30 day juice feast and I loved it. Have you gone to juicefeast, com? I recommend it and I also read Angela Stokes "Juice feast Handbook". If you feel comfortable giving me your e-mail addy, I will send it to you (it's PDF format).

Good luck, Katie

I have done juice feasting for 30 days once and another 12 days as of today. You should check it out. I don't think I can do the whole 92 as I feel like I'm getting too thin but I have lost almost 60 lbs this year by going raw and juicing a lot. Good luck to you. My energy level is so much better now. Peace, Jane

Hey Jessyka. I'm fairly new to raw (5 months in) and I just started a juice feast today. I'm going to try it for 3 days and see what it feels like and then see if I want to continue. I like to "try" things for a short period of time. That's actually how I started the raw thing. I told myself I would be 100% raw for one week. Now it's been several months and i'm still feeling good. =)
However, as with all detoxifying processes, it can get difficult as old feelings start to seep out...unexpectedly. A good foundation of love and support is really really important!!! There will be people who don't understand and you have to learn how to accept that.
If you feel ready... I say go for it, make the move when you are full of passion and motivation for change and healing. Good luck girl!

I did the same thing you're doing. It wasn't until after 5 months on the raw food lifestyle that I began with a 3 day juice feast experiment the beginning of December. I'm now on a 5 day juice feast experiment, mostly to clean myself up after the holidays and begin the new year on a clean note (today is actually Jan 1, 2009!)

I notice that I'm experiencing more detoxification symptoms compared to the first time I juiced (i.e. runny nose, sore throat, night sweating (one night, mucus discharge). But other than that, I lost 6 pounds the last 3 days and still feel incredible energy. Hunger pangs are still a challenge and I long to eat solids again. I don't think I'm ready for a extensively long period of juicing like 30 or 92 days but like you, I'm experimenting and extending the length of time gradually. I may end up doing a 3 to 5 day juice feast once a month - who knows?

I deal with hunger pangs by making sure I am 1) drinking every 3 or 4 hours, 2) keeping busy like exercising, writing, reading or some other type of activity.

Juicing does take focus, commitment and dedication. It's not easy but it gets easier.

Thanks everyone for the advice!

Rawker - I messaged you my email address and Thanks!

I want to lose weight, but that's really not even my focus. I just want to be healthy. I want more energy and no headaches.

I told my husband about this last night and he kinda freaked out. He's not against eating healthy (although he personally loves his cheeseburgers) but he seriously thinks this is a fad crash diet and it's going to hurt me. His mom is anorexic so he's always afraid I'm going to do that too. I told him this is so healthy and it will be good for me, but he says our bodies can't survive on a liquid diet only and he wants to hear from a respectable doctor that this is safe. so I'm trying to do more research for him. I know I'll be able to convince him eventually. At least I know he loves me, lol :)

Hi Jessyka:

I had already been on the raw food diet/lifestyle for about 3 or 4 months before I decided to test the waters by juicing for 3 days the first week of December. I had already lost 25 pounds since going raw and lost another 5 or so when I juiced for 3 days. But I think there would be no harm in starting a juice feast as soon as you're ready. I echo RAWker's recommendation that you read Angela Stoke's Juice Feast Handbook." I also recommend you buy "The Complete Book of Juicing" by Michael T. Murray - there are over 150 juice recipes in that book.

I'm now on my second juice fast for 5 days (on Day 3 now). I had gone home for the holidays last week and while I ate mostly raw, I did have some SAD food (Standard American Diet) including meat, potatoes, sweets, etc (I didn't go overboard but still......)

It's fun experimenting with different juices/ When I did it the first time, I experienced incredible natural highs (energy). I did struggle with hunger pangs but took care of that by drinking juices every 3 hours. I read that if you get a headache or feel dizzy, it's recommended to have a small bite to eat of something to ease yourself into it.

Good luck!
