Give it to me Raw

In less then a year I have had 3 cavities. Any ideas as to why this is happening. I take very good care of me teeth....I floss and brush several times a day. It's disheartening to be eating the 'best food' yet have my teeth deteriorating. I love raw food and feel wonderful eating this way but am concerned that it is not the best thing for my body.

Any thoughts?

So that is what oil pulling is all about. It's just washing mouth with oil.

You may be eating the 'best food' but there can be a number of reasons why youre having teeth problems

1) your teeth were already likely on their way to having cavities.

2) nutrient deficiency. Usually insuffcient caloric intake, causing your body to need protein from the body, using what it considers least healthy/important first, and/or insufficient total protein or individual amino acid intake, insufficient zinc intake, insufficient calcium intake, significantly imbalanced calcium:phosphorus ratios in favour of phosphorus.

3) consumption of dried fruits.(especially with (4))

4) excess consumption of nuts/seeds...the bacteria love those acidic proteins.

5) consumption of fruit/root vegetable juices

6) excess consumption of citrus particularly if its not perfectly ripe (eg. not super easy to peel, with a thinner peel).

If I remember rightly, you had a history of underconsumption? That would then indicate at least (2).

Hope this helps.

Take care

Ok, what I don't get is this. Why are there people who had no problems with their teeth before going raw, but after eating raw, they do?? Did they eat more greens before they went raw than after? Was there more minerals in the cooked food they were eating? How can there be more problems WITH raw food than before? I haven't had cavities since I was a kid, and I don't want to get them now. Does anyone have answers to this? This seems so crazy to me.

i actually read the vitamin/mineral content of certain foods [comparatively] from raw to cooked... surprisingly many foods increase in their [scientific] nutritional values after being cooked. of course, this doesn't account for the raw enzymes present and the digestion process probably brings out more nutrients as well. perhaps the amount of vitamins/minerals in cooked food, in conjunction with the amount of food we take in, would overload our bodies... people can OD on specific vitamins.
so i think, where before going raw, balancing nutrition was less pertinent, after going raw, the importance of proper nutritional balance is at the forefront... just my deduction.

A raw vegan diet destroys teeth. This much is evident after many years of experience/observation. Study the work of the dentist Dr. Weston A. Price and you'll understand www.westonaprice.org

Your ph balancing is off. Your too acidic too often and prob not eating enough overall. Buy ph strips, eat raw, high alkaline forming foods.
Here is a very helpful listing:

One thing I learned when I was getting eating disorder councilling is never to brush directly after eating, especailly sweet/acid foods like fruit, because this actually rubs the acids into your teeth. Wash your mouth with water instead and don't use mouthwash.

Yes, don't brush your teeth within about 30 minutes after eating, as the enamel is temporarily softened and can be brushed away (in cellular terms). Rinse your mouth with water, so that any sugar or foods stuck to your teeth are washed away, but don't brush. Brushing many times a day is not more helpful, twice a day is sufficient, you can do more harm than good by brushing all the time. Always remember to rinse your mouth with water after eating fruit or drinking a fruit juice. For the sake of your teeth it is also better to drink your juice or smoothie, and get it over and done with, don't sip, sip, sip all day long, that's very bad for the teeth. Teeth can handle about 3 "sweet" attacks a day, any more than that and the teeth cannot remineralise sufficiently. That then can cause cavities.

You need to brush your teeth with tooth soap (found at whole foods) every single day. getting a cavity will be next to impossible. also brush with hydrogen peroxide until the cavities are gone.

Hydrogen peroxide makes my cavities hurt bad! Where did you get that info?

I bet. My aching diminished when animal products were included in my diet.

Sadly, I'm in the same boat. After 29 years of "perfect", cavity-free teeth, I've developed 4 cavities and receded gums in just under a year of going raw.

Before blaming me on poor dental hygiene or lacking minerals, let me say this:

I brush at least 3 times a day and floss twice a day. I rinse with water after every meal and use a waterpik after every meal (when available). I use baking soda and salt several times a week and consume very little citrus.

I don't eat dried fruits or nuts (unless blended in a dressing) and eat well over a pound of greens PER DAY. I don't eat salt and properly combine my food.

Doing all that, I've still managed to develop 4 cavities. My dentist said my teeth are "very clean", so how is this possible?

On my previous diet, I was drinking pop every night. I would brush twice a day and never floss. I didn't own a water pik and ate highly acidic foods. I drank alcohol and ate lots of dried fruit and nuts. My previous diet would have been considered "very acidic" and contained very few fresh fruits and veggies. Oral hygiene was a low priority, yet I never developed any cavities or experienced any tooth sensitivity.

Am I angry that I have cavities? No. These things happen. Am I confused that this has happened while being on the healthiest diet? Yes.
