There seems to be no place in the uk i can get tai coconuts!?! i have turned to the dark side to get my fix of coconut......packaged coconut water!!!! I didn't realise there was so many products online and am a bit baffled to which one is the purest? Does anybody have any info on what kind to purchase?
Just to let you know, they're all pasteurized. I learned that a few days ago. I used to buy cases of coconut water, because, like yourself, I love the stuff.
Like charles I too found out some dirty little truths about coconut water AND I'M DEVASTATED! i'm seriously destraught. It's my favorite thing to drink...my saving grace. Now i'm trying to plan a trip to florida so I can get some thats fresh and free of chemicals. Lately I've been drinking the boxed coconut water from wholefoods but I dont even look at that the same.

I have also been told many of the thai coconuts are bleached upon arrival to the States as well to give the outside that "fresh" white look, lets remember than anything on the outside goes to the inside as well, so you will probably be getting bleach in your coconut water as well.
You can find plenty of fresh young coconuts here in Panama on the side or the road for 25 cents a piece, freshly picked off a local tree!
Ever see Jenna Norwood's videos in Hawaii that she posted on here? Coconuts are all over the ground, falling from trees. Why can't I get that in Jersey? No, instead, the only thing that falls from the sky around here is pigeon poop.
"Once exposed to air, coconut water begins to ferment, and rapidly loses most of its organoleptic and nutritional characteristics. To eliminate the risk of bacterial growth, commercial bottlers are forced to sterilize the product using high-temperature/short-time pasteurization (the same technology used in long-life milk), which destroys some of coconut water's nutrients and almost all of the flavour.
"Now, after more than five years of research and testing, FAO has announced a simple cold preservation technology appropriate for small and medium-sized agro-industries that allows them to produce bottled coconut water which, under refrigeration, stays fresh for from 10 days to three weeks."
Soooo... it looks like if the coconut water doesn't taste fresh and the expiration date is beyond three weeks, then be very suspicious. And if the manufacturer won't tell you to what extent it's been heated, well, we can all draw reasonable conclusions, can't we? :))
As far as bleaching goes, does anyone know for a fact that the bleach would absorb past the outer husk?
If you're looking for a good source of inexpensive young coconuts you might stop in at a large Chinese grocery. At the natural food stores In Portland, Oregon, they sell for about $2.50 - organic $3.50. The Chinese grocery sells them for 98 cents. I wonder what's worse, flash pasteurizing of organic coconut water or drinking the water from "natural" coconuts that have been treated with pesticides, possibly fumigated for after-harvest insect damage, covered with bleach and raised on soil that has been augmented with petrol based fertilizers and rat bait.
I'm in agreement with you on this RawZi. Just my opinion too, but coconuts do have an extremely thick shell, even with the green skin cut off. I don't find anything offensive about them energetically, except perhaps a little too much sugar from hybridization (or so I understand that accounts for the extreme sweetness). I often ferment coconut water for that reason, and the meat so it's easier to digest. The thought of opening this sacred sterile womb to extract it's nectar for processing (however minimal) and packaging does however offend my senses. So glad the local Asian grocer sells them for $1a piece :))
It woud be instructive if the fresh water from the coconuts that are imported into Chinese and Thai markets could be tested for residues. That's the only way to know.
Nice picture and changes! I plan to go on a similar diet at some point, whenever I move out of Vermont and somewhere warmer. Lovin' the posts on your site, keep it up :P.
What the ginger? The ginger is mine unfortunately -_- But I have a tendency to try to get rid of it, and since I absolutely will not touch synthetic hair dyes, I'm stuck with doing it myself with plant dyes - Which is reaaally hard. I usually end ...
For those of you who do not know, if you get a headset ( 20 bucks at store) for your laptop you can talk to anyone online for free anywhere in the world, if they have laptop and headset too.
You download SKYPE or GOOGLE TALK.
People can call you...
I think the color suits you, it looks right. Sometimes when people color their hair it's obvious that it's a dye job and it just looks off. Yours doesn't look off at all. Anyway, it's a lot better than my hair! ;)
